Talking Super Bowl

A man had 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl.

As he sat down, he noticed that the seat next to him was empty.

He asked the man on the other side of the empty seat whether anyone was sitting there.

"No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the first man.

"Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world and not use it?"

The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away.

This will be the first Super bowl we haven't been together since we got married in 1967."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"

The man shook his head. "No, they're all at her funeral

I know what you mean Cookie. I'm not interested in the game at all, but I did watch the superbowl on and off when our team was playing. They were good enough to win two years in a row, so I shared my husband's interest, although temporarily.

He's a football fan, but thankfully, he's far from obsessed and that's alright with me!

I'm not into pro football, but I do enjoy the socializing at the Bowl party held every year at a friend's house. It's also an excuse to cook up something decadent that I usually avoid. It has to be something that goes well with the Fred Flintstone-sized racks of beef and the bottomless bowls of chili.

Hey! What gal doesn't like watchin' those tight ends hauling it down field!
Just like any sport, I do like football, but in moderation.. still a die hard Giants & Jets fan. I'd much rather be a participant, than a spectator, not in football..but, ya know what I mean.
These people @ work watch all the teams play that may be going up against their own.. there's better things to do with all of those hours, ya know LOL The good side of it is the local sports bar (which has great food & a beautiful view of the lake) always has someone you know there watching a game, so if ya feel like spur-of-the-moment socializing, it's all good!!

hahaha!! Yep, the Bowl parties are fun I'm gonna do a little party hopping up until the 2 half, if the weather holds out. Then I'll finish the game at my Dad's.

What did you decide to make?

Looks as if you'll be doing some major running around. The party I'm going to is just down at the corner, so I go, chit-chat a bit, eat, chit-chat some more, have some laughs, and when I've had my fill....wave, smile, and walk home.

I'm just going with a "plate-free" dessert this year. Probably some dark chocolate truffles and Chocolate Cherry Heart Smart Cookies, from a recipe I found at the Better Homes & Gardens site.

The mere thought of dark chocolate........

Personally I'm not into football or the Super Bowl stuff, but my daughter & hubby rushed back from
Louisville last night to prepare for a Bowl party they're having this afternoon - it's a yearly neighborhood thing,
and it's their turn. She shopped last Thursday for chips/dips/snack stuff. Others bring a dish too.
The women do the food fixing & the men do cleanup.
Though invited, I'm going to stay home a& finish a good book!

No cheerleaders for this game. First time ever. Boring.

Too bad about the cheerleaders jfh. I asked my husband, and he said probably because there's no home team for the game. When I asked him if it was the first time ever, he said he didn't know, he never noticed.

My husband's making a couple of racks of pork spareribs on the barbeque (charcoal), mmmmm...

He said he never noticed? Good grief. Sometimes the super bowl is only worth the cheerleaders, commercials, and half time. I've no favorite team this year.

It is true that this is the first time ever. I think the ever so beautiful Dallas Cowboys' Cheerleaders should make a cameo appearance.

Well...he IS a very smart man, maybe he just knows the right things to say, LOL! Must be working, 34+ years of wedded bliss here. He wants the Green Bay Packers to win.

Guess someone was actually able to hold my attention at my first stop cause I didn't do as much hoppin' as I initally thought..
And I made it home just before the end of the game because all I kept thinking was how I still had to get all my stuff done & ready for work for Monday

That sounds like a fun neighborhood get-together. Then there's no worrying about someone driving home too tipsy....they just have to walk down the street!

Did you get to read your book?

I feel your pain jfh. Men just can't survive if women aren't in the mix, no matter what the situation!

That's pretty weird that there were no cheerleaders!
