Default Fluoride Found Dangerous to Thyroid

Fluoride Damages the Thyroid, report shows
First-ever government review of fluoride/thyroid toxicology shows
risk .

2008-05-19 15:54:10 - There is clear evidence that small amounts of
fluoride, at or near levels added to U.S. water supplies,
present potential risks to the thyroid gland, according to the
National Research Council's (NRC) first-ever published review of the
fluoride/thyroid literature.(A)

Fluoride, in the form of silicofluorides, injected into 2/3 of U.S.
public water supplies, ostensibly to reduce tooth decay, was never
safety-tested.(B)

"Many Americans are exposed to fluoride in the ranges associated with
thyroid effects, especially for people with iodine deficiency," says
Kathleen Thiessen, PhD, co-author of the government-sponsored NRC
report. "The recent decline in iodine intake in the U.S could
contribute to increased toxicity of fluoride for some individuals,"
says Thiessen.

"A low level of thyroid hormone can increase the risk of cardiac
disease, high cholesterol, depression and, in pregnant woman,
decreased intelligence of offspring," said Thiessen.(C)

Common thyroid symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, constipation,
fuzzy thinking, low blood pressure, fluid retention, depression, body
pain, slow reflexes, and more. It's estimated that 59 million
Americans have thyroid conditions.(D)

Robert Carton, PhD, an environmental scientist who worked for over 30
years for the U.S. government including managing risk assessments on
high priority toxic chemicals, says "fluoride has detrimental effects
on the thyroid gland of healthy males at 3.5 mg a day. With iodine
deficiency, the effect level drops to 0.7 milligrams/day for an
average male."(E) (1.0 mg/L fluoride is in most water supplies)

Among many others, the NRC Report cites human studies which show

- fluoride concentrations in thyroids exceeding that found in other
soft tissues except kidney

- an association between endemic goiter and fluoride exposure or
enamel fluorosis in human populations

- fluoride adversely affects thyroid and parathyroid hormones, which
affect bone health

"If you have a thyroid problem, avoiding fluoride may be a good
preventive health measure for you," writes Drs' Richard and Karilee
Shames in "Thyroid Power."(F).

Over, 1,700 Physicians, Dentists, Scientists, Academics and
Environmentalists urge Congress to stop water fluoridation until
Congressional hearings are conducted. They cite new scientific
evidence that fluoridation is ineffective and has serious health
risks. (https://www.fluorideaction.org/statem...gust.2007.html)

Fluoride-induced thyroid dysfunction in rats: roles of dietary protein and calcium level.
Quote:
To assess the roles of dietary protein (Pr) and calcium (Ca) level associated with excessive fluoride (F) intake and the impact of dietary Pr, Ca, and F on thyroid function, 144 30-day-old Wistar albino rats were randomly allotted to six groups of 24 (female:male = 1:1).
The six groups were fed (1) a normal control (NC) diet (17.92% Pr, 0.85% Ca = NC group); (2) the NC diet and high F (338 mg NaF [=150 mg F ion]/L in their drinking water = NC+F group); (3) low Pr and low Ca diet (10.01% Pr, 0.24% Ca = LPrLCa group); (4) low Pr and low Ca diet plus high F = LPrLCa+F group; (5) high Pr and low Ca diet plus high F (25.52% Pr, 0.25% Ca = HPrLCa+F group); and (6) low Pr and high Ca diet plus high F (10.60% Pr, 1.93% Ca = LPrHCa+F group).
The areas of thyroid follicles were determined by Image-Proplus 5.1, and triiodothyronine (T3), free T3 (FT3), thyroxine (T4), and free T4 (FT4) levels in serum were measured by radioimmunoassay.
The histopathological study revealed obviously flatted follicular epithelia cells and hyperplastic nodules, consisting of thyroid parafollicular cells that appeared by excessive F ingestion, on the 120th day. Pr or Ca supplementation reverses the F-induced damage in malnutrition.
The serum T3, FT3, T4, and FT4 levels in the NC+F group were significantly decreased and significantly increased in the LPrLCa+F group.
Thus, excessive F administration induces thyroid dysfunction in rats; dietary Pr and Ca level play key roles in F-induced thyroid dysfunction.

Let us discuss this from a different point of view!

Some lazy person who sits on his/her tush and does nothing will be drinking much less water than someone highly active. The highly active operson who drinks a gallon of water a dat will be ingesting 4 or times that of a lazy person. That is why they should not flouridate, the intake variance is way too wide.

Well water has natural fluoride in it, picking it up from underground rocks.
Some wells in Texas have over 4 times the recommended maximum level of fluoride.

Does boiling the tap water get rid of the fluoride?

So in other words you are better off being lazy?

Cool! Good one.

anise, fluoride cannot be boiled off. It can be distilled off though.
