Default Death by Coca-Cola

My ears pricked up when I heard this....

The quantities involved are bordering on insanity, all the same Coca-Cola doesn't emerge from all this in a very good light to say the least...

Oh my gosh
ugh.. I don't understand how people can drink more than a glass or so of soda.
Although, during my 'partying' days, my drink was jack 'n ginger & I didn't have any problem going through several of those... hahaha

The only time I can remember having soda in the house when I was growing up was during a party. Raised my kids the same way~

While it can be argued that Coke is probably not the healthiest thing you could be drinking I dont think we can blame her death on solely on coke. At 10 liters a day she obviously had a problem.

I cant imagine even trying to drink that much.
I suspect 10 liters a day of anything else would have produce similar results.

That's about 86 tablespoons of sugar (or corn syrup) a day. Anybody know how much phosphoric acid is in 10 liters of coke? I don't know the answer to this but I guess the habit was enough to rot her teeth out. Either way, it's unfortunate.

I've known some people who were addicted to Coke. It's the thing they reached for first thing in the morning. Seems to go hand in hand with cigarette addiction.

I just don't know how anyone can drink that much of anything daily. I have trouble drinking 3 liters of water per day. That's how much I think I'm supposed to drink. My kidneys complain though.

I suppose someone could have renal failure with too much. And also one would lose a lot of electrolytes. Sodium and potassium would suffer. But day after day?

Sugar is addictive, in all its forms.

There was a time that I was drinking two liters per day, and I thought that was alot.

There were some comments on yahoo earlier that suggested it was completely her fault, however I disagree. Coke should take some responsibility for her death.

I thought Mormons were supposed to shun caffeine.

what about the caffeine? could that have been what she was after? the pick me up effect? In her case it was: The coroner calculated that drinking 10 litres (17.5 pints) of Coke amounted to more than 1kg (2.2lb) of sugar and 970mg of caffeine

I know several people that drink a few bottles in the am to get the caff kick going. I feel bad for their adrenal glands. sheesh

Default COCA-COLA ET LA FORMULE SECRETE

COCA-COLA ET LA FORMULE SECRETE
Quote:
The recipe for Coca-Cola is a trade secret, quasi-military, jealously guarded.
From the red and white, only two people in the world would experience the list of ingredients.
Why so much mystery around a simple soft drink? What does it cover? Should we be wary of the most consumed beverage on the planet?
Mokiejewski Olivia decided to tackle the hidden face of the most powerful brand in the world and go in search of the famous secret formula ... Leaves sometimes pass for a pain in the ass! ----------- "COCA-COLA" COCA-COLA AND THE SECRET FORMULA
If you don't speak FRENCH you can select captions and then scroll down to the English version.
The translations are very good but they are good enough to get the gist of what is being said. There are also sections where the speaker is speaking English unfortunately the translation to French and the captions make it all a bit confusing but stick with it and it should put you off Coke.

You also have to consider all the high fructose corn syrup. And when it comes to sugar and caffeine, other colas are no better. Fresh coffee and bottled spring water are my beverages of choice these days, and I have to limit my coffee. Drinks are far worse than foods these days, and the foods are bad enough.

Outside the US and I think Canada, all the sodas are cane sugar, not HFCS

Decades ago, coca-cola add is cocaine to the soda. That's why folks started calling it coke. My grandmother remembers this.

Quote:
When launched, Coca-Cola's two key ingredients were cocaine and caffeine. The cocaine was derived from the coca leaf and the caffeine from kola nut, leading to the name Coca-Cola (the "K" in Kola was replaced with a "C" for marketing purposes).[38][39]
Coca cocaine

Pemberton called for five ounces of coca leaf per gallon of syrup, a significant dose; in 1891, Candler claimed his formula (altered extensively from Pemberton's original) contained only a tenth of this amount. Coca-Cola once contained an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per glass. In 1903, it was removed.[40]

After 1904, instead of using fresh leaves, Coca-Cola started using "spent" leaves the leftovers of the cocaine-extraction process with trace levels of cocaine.[41] Coca-Cola now uses a cocaine-free coca leaf extract prepared at a Stepan Company plant in Maywood, New Jersey.

Gee! Isn't that why Queen Isabella funded the Columbus voyages? Was it gold, or was it the coca leaves that he brought back?
