I'm surprised to see canola oil there as a healthy fat again. Dr. Oz pushes it too.

Even in his book spontaneous healing he was pushing canola oil.

Don't you think it's too much soy?

And the canola oil surprised me too!

I can't see any coconut oil in this pyramid.
I think avoiding natural saturated fats isn't healthy.
Remember that not all Extra Virgin Olive Oil is as pure and unadulterated as you would hope.
While it probably is possible to buy a "healthy" canola oil I doubt most people will be able to find them easily. The bulk of rapeseed/canola oils in the supermarket will be the result of hexane extraction and so may have some petroleum extracts present.
If it's organic, cold pressed (first pressing) then it may be OK.
While it would have been possible for early humans to have used coconut and become adapted to consuming it I don't think that modern genetically modified and industrially processed rapeseed/canola oils have a sufficient history for us to assume they are generally safe.

Canola oil, even cold pressed, still has a toxin in it (although, in small amounts)

His pyramid is a far cry better then the USDA but as you already pointed out there are some things noteworthy of change.

I would eliminate the pasta and replace the fruit with an increase in veggies to 9 a day. And the nuts are very high in omega 6's which can backfire an anti-inflammatory diet program. Adding some flaxseeds to those nuts servings would help.

I'm laughing at myself - who am I to be a critic of Dr. Weil. lol

But I think we have to understand trying to get everyone to eat the same ideal diet and nutrition is about as impossible as trying to make one pair of shoes that is suitable for all feet.
Common sense is sufficient for us all to know that ideally you need the right size shoe for each individual person, so with diet, there never will be a "one diet suits all diet". We've got the gut flora we've acquired to date and it's a long slow process changing the current gut flora to one that promotes our good health.

Microbiome: That healthy gut feeling

Dr Art Ayers has it about right though I don't think he's sussed out the importance of melatonin yet.

That's the way I feel about Mercola. I think all the celebrity doctors get that way when they discover they have to make a living. They can't make enough money selling books or newsletters apparently.

I bet Mercola spends more money on Lawyers and his legal team than anyone could imagine. He must have the FDA breathing down his neck every single day and every time he posts online.
I think you have to be extremely brave to speak as openly and honestly as he does and even so I bet he has to have independent legal checks done BEFORE he posts any of his blog.
