Default VIT D I call bullshit on the med community

https://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-livin...153100421.html

Recommend 600 IU but some experts say 1-2000 can be beneficial. Yeah, we know that! d3 is better than d2 yeah, we know that also

More than 10000 a day can have toxicity. So what they are saying is up to 10000 a day is probably ok. Recommend 600 but 6000 is definietly ok. I would bet 75% of the pharma drugs out there, if you took take times what the doc receommended you would die pretty quickly.

The article estimates 30-50% of Americans are deficient in vitamin D.

It is more like 75-80%, and considering Canada is even further north of the equator, almost everyone in Canada is deficient. (except me)

the article says "Its important to stay within the appropriate range--there is a toxicity risk at over 10,000 IU. The best way to determine how much you might need is to have your physician administer a simple blood test and make a recommendation based on the current level in you system."

fact of the matter is that with testing done most adults need about 5,000 IU a day. The testing proves it. And testing is demonstrating that some elderly need even more. Short term periods of even higher levels may be required for therapeutic dosaging to tackle certain problems like psoriasis.

Toxicity is possible thats why testing is recommended. There is even a home test to encourage people to test themselves to avoid the cost of a doctors visit and the lab fees that are too expensive.

There is a place where mega dosaging is acceptable. This is where a vitamin goes beyond regular supplementation and more into the classification of a drug therapy to force the body to comply or change. As with all drugs you weigh the risk factors against what might be gained. Toxicity from D3 is rare and requires slamming down a lot of vitamin D3 for quite a while. Gary Null was a prime example of that. Most vitamin D3 toxicity at a lower level is transient and will pass off.

this pubmed article outlines vitamin D toxicity, signs and symptoms, treatment and expected outcome. The correct dose for any individual should be based on blood levels.
