Default how much melatonin and wine?

I've seen a few articles recently about there being melatonin in wine and a friend of mine told me a few times that it's the only drink that after one drink he gets really sleepy pretty fast.

My question is how much melatonin does wine really have on average say for a cab?

I take 10mg of melatonin a day right now, so I was curious how much melatonin wine has, since I drink wine on weekends for health reasons.

This article goes into it in a bit more detail

From vineyard to glass: agrochemicals enhance the melatonin and total polyphenol contents and antiradical activity of red wines. shows that the way the vine is grown can alter the melatonin content. I would think the chitosan treatment would count as "organic" as using shellfish remains as fertiliser would be a traditional technique.

Do be aware that melatonin works in synergy with resveratrol so you get more for your money taking melatonin with resveratrol than taking either melatonin or resveratrol separately.

I think many of the health benefits of Mediterranean diets is due NOT only to the fact people in the Mediterranean get more sunshine (hence more vitamin d) but also more BRIGHT LIGHT exposure in the day and thus more melatonin secretion at night. Don't forget that although melatonin secretion generally declines as we age that is partly the result of lifestyle changes. We can increase natural melatonin secretion by spending time outside when the light is brightest, although 4hrs is best 30mins will help. Similarly using the free downloadable software FLUX to automatically adjust the brightness of your monitor after dusk so you don't stop melatonin secretion during the evening will help, perhaps using no more than candlelight would be ideal but I doubt that's going to be practicable. Keeping the bedroom as dark as possible also helps.

The fact most diets are omega 3 DHA deficient and choline deficient also has an impact on melatonin secretion

Don't know whether it got caught in a spam trap but I was notified of an addition by Liferock to this thread which was a link to a previous NatMed thread
Harry Hirsute red wine and melatonin back from 2006. It also mentions that cherries are a good food source of melatonin so that's another good reason to treat yourself .

Do you think if I'm going to take pills that at night a combination of resveratrol with melatonin would be better? I'm currently taking the triple strength melatonin at 10mg every night to help me sleep, but wondering if I should maybe lower that to 5mgs and have a glass of wine for dinner every night for a combination of a little bit of resveratrol, melatonin and the other health benefits?

I can only admit that I go for 6mg melatonin in 2 x 3mg time release tablets one at 8om approx and the other when I get into bed also take a high strength resveratrol Biotivia, Transmax, Trans-Resveratrol and supplement with a little more red wine than is sensible.

I think I might try that instead. I do get pretty good sleep now, but I think maybe time release 3mg at dinner with wine and my vitamins and then take another 3mgs right before getting into bed might do the trick.

I noticed that when I take St. John's wort that I am more relaxed and sleep better. I really never noticed it except when I run out and then I noticed sleeping/anxiety issues.
