They can affect the most basic human needs, including the ability to eat and drink, swallow, maintain proper nutrition, smile and communicate.

\nLactobacillus is a type of bacteria that lives in the digestive, urinary and genital systems. It is also in some fermented foods such as yogurt and in dietary supplements. Lactobacillus is used for treating and preventing diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn�s disease, inflammation of the colon, urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast infections, respiratory infections, skin disorders.

\nBifidobacteria are bacteria that exist primarily in the large intestine although some also inhabit the lower part of the small intestine. To date, 28 species of bifidobacteria have been isolated from the intestines of humans and animals.

\nBacillus coagulans is a lactic acid-forming bacterial species within the genus Bacillus. Bacillus coagulans have been used in the treatment of infectious diarrhea, diarrhea caused by antibiotics, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn�s disease, ulcerative colitis, and as a cancer preventative.
\n
\nThe objective of a recent study was to evaluate the effect of probiotics on salivary mutans streptococci counts of children and to explore their anti-caries potential. The researchers recruited 150 healthy children aged 7-14 years who were randomly divided into 3 groups: Group A � placebo powder, Group B � freeze dried powder combined with Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium species, and Group C - freeze dried powdered preparation of Bacillus coagulans. After 14 days of probiotic ingestion, a statistically significant reduction was found in salivary mutans streptococci in both groups B and C. These findings suggest that probiotics may prevent dental caries in children.1
