Default Wisdom tooth or TMJ?

Hi everyone. I've posted this before but this is just a follow up. Last summer of August 2010 I developed a painful tension feeling around my jaw area, the left side of the face mostly. I got a night guard on July 22nd 2011. I know that is extremely late but the problem is that we've been to so many doctors until we found out the problem. I have been using the nightguard for 13 weeks or so without improvement. I got a MRI of the brain - all normal, no trigimental nerve abnormality, sinuses are clear, arteries are fine. The jaw was okay too. But I recently got a X-ray of my mouth from the dentist who made the nightguard for me. The X-ray showed to his eyes that I have a big wisdom tooth under my gum. First off, I'm 13. I think it's a wisdom tooth because the fact that physical therapy hasn't helped whatsoever (electrical stimulation, ice/hot packs, range motion exercises, ultrasound etc. I don't have any clicking or popping, but the dentist that made me the nightguard and took the X-rays of my mouth, had his oral surgeon worker look at the X-rays of my mouth. He said that it wasn't my wisdom tooth as I am too young, and that I should continue physical therapy. The problem is my physical therapist is getting fed up by the fact that I am not responding to PT. I am taking Tylenol #3 (the strong one) and Aleve but only the tylenol can relieve it for some time. Should I get more X-rays of my wisdom tooth from other dentists or just continue physical therapy? Cause right now I am getting a lot of directions from many doctors as I don't know where the pain is coming from. The pain usually radiates all over my left side of my face

You're not too young for a wisdom tooth to be hurting you.

Ask your parents to pick up your x-rays, since you paid for them (they belong to you) and get some other opinions.. Especially since you're in PAIN and relying on tylenol 3 just to get through the day.

Once a wisdom tooth's roots grow into the bone, removal brings in more money for that oral surgeon. Plus, your dentist & physical therapist have you returning on a regular basis right now which brings in a little more than your average patient. I'm surprised your parents aren't getting suspicious, especially since the x-ray is showing a wisdom tooth & they begin growing at 11 or 12 years old.

I've never heard of a wisdom tooth hurting like this but its not outside of the realms of possibility. Absolutley get another opinion. If you have it removed it may solve the problem.. many people end up with their wisdom teeth removed anyway because they were causing problems. I and both my son's have had it done due to crowding or they just never fully break through and are always sore in the gums.

There is a therapy called prolotherpy, generally done by naturopathic doctors, but some medical doctors do it also.. This is the injection of homeoapthic remedies, nutrientents or Ozone gas into the site of pain or inflammation depending on what is needed. It can be highly effective and has helped to get many people off of narcotics.

I attened a seminar that taught the basics of this process. There was a doctor attending who had had chronic hi[/leg pain for many years. As a model for the class he received an injection of Ozone and the next day he was fully pain free. Ozone has analgesic effects.. and although I doubt it would cure his condition he was pain free. The instructor said he would likely need repeat injections every few weeks or once a month.. This may be a better long term strategy for pain relief. During the class I also received an injection into a muscle in the back of my neck and the releif I received for long term chronic pain was quite good.... 6 months.. the pain I had was not severe and I never took a pill for it, but still a nagging thing just under the surface of my awareness. Some naturopaths and medical doctors specialize in this technique.

Not that many prolotherapist inject ozone. You would have to look around for one that does as ozone is still controversial in this country.. but it is out there. Even without ozone prolotherapy can be very effective.

hi arrow!! I went to the website and I located the listing for my state (NY) My mom called today and made an appointed with this doctor though message via voicemail: https://www.getprolo.com/richard_ash_md_prolotherapy.htm '

His name is Richard Ash. I picked him bc it says here:
"We offer Reconstructive Therapy, which is a non-surgical treatment that involves the injection of nutritional substances into the supporting tissues around an injured joint. This technique allows for the growth of cells and tissues to repair the weakened joints, ligaments, and tendons."

It says its only for herniated discs, knee, back, hip etc. Will this help or should I get another doctor listing? Thank you

I am going to the Dentist Monday and I am not sure what he will do. I will ask him to do X-rays (we have the ones taken already from the doctor that made me the nightguard that I mentioned; this is a different doctor) He and his assistant still say I need the wisdom tooth removed, while the oral surgeon says I should still continue to get PT. hopefully this dentist I am going to will help. And yes, I need Tylenol 3 to get through the day. believe me, my mom is very suspicious as we are trying to find out what is going on when everything appears to be normal.
