Default The Town Thats Growing Its Own Food and Its Free.

At last a news story that shows community spirit is still thriving in small towns at least.

Carrots in the car park. Radishes on the roundabout. The deliciously eccentric story of the town growing its own veg

Imagine if most towns in the world did that?

I LOVE THIS, I COULD LIVE THERE...This is so healthy and normal, naturall and humane,i loooove it...

Of course even if they sucseed immigration will kick in,some time later crime will kick in,and shortly after the people will put up walls and lock their doors again and keep their food for themselfs, and all the efford they are in putting now, is for nothing in the long term...

Unless they are smart enough to do something like put up walls all around their village-town and declare independence, make their laws forbidding immigration or limiting it to a bare minimal, and keep the small community SMALL...thats the only way this will last, and it wont, unfortunatelly because those people dont govern themselfs and its not realistic to do what i said they should, not in the 21st century the way humans live now,no way...

You know the example of this is just a strategic game that you can play on your computer, you start with a village,a few villagers and a few soldiers, you build up your economy and you establish your defences, and everytime everything is going fine, plenty of food, wood, gold or whatever, you control everything and all is well, untill your village becomes a city, your handfull of villagers become much much more, and then you have just too many people and buildings and stuff to do that you cannot control everything and you start seeing problems all over the place...

So i would definitly support many smaller communities out in the nature than huge cities with a million/billon people in there and a criminalistic police...

oh anyway a nice little(huge actually) global catastrophy will put things on the right track again, and if that happens it will last for a short time and the world might just be better, untill humans reach the state we are in today again, and we will, bcuz of our nature(some would say progress,ya right muahaha)...

Wasn't there once talk about turning large areas of Detroit (which had been demolished), into small garden towns. Whatever became of this plan?

There is a community garden in hudson ohio and in pittsburgh, they have roodtop gardens on some apt complexes. But if every small town did this, the big corporations would get pissed and get congress to pass some type of legistaltion (for our safety of course)

I can see this working in a village but forget about anything like this happening in large cities ,people would rather get fast food than fresh food

Berkeley, California has several organic community produce gardens. I used to coordinate one of them and work in it.

Yes, there is a rather large community garden now in New Orleans, and several in New York City.. but community gardens are not free food for anyone. The food belongs to those who work the garden.... netflix has a great movie, true story about a huge community garden near LosAangles somewhere, run mostly by hispanics.

Its a struggle to grow stuff where I live... and people are so use to not eating veggies that they don't really care. To really make it sustainable you need a greenhouse designed to manage some pretty cold weather.

I know of people in California who spend time planting fruit trees on public lands.

Love it! It's better than flowers in the medians.

When my husband came to this country he expected to see fruit trees being planted everywhere like in his country, and was disgusted that ornamental trees are planted instead. He hoped to see a lot of peach trees when he moved to Georgia but was disappointed.
