Default Gas stove inhalation

So I have a gas stove at my apartment.. evertime I turn it on, before the flame sparks I inhale a bit of the gas.. obviously this is bad.. how bad is it though? How can I avoid it?

Natural gas consists primarily of methane which is a clear odorless gas and is extremely flammable therefore a perfume is added so that if a leak is presence it can be detected thus preventing accidental ignition.

The human body is also known to periodically leak methane, it also has a perfume added thus enabling its presence to be detected.

In small amounts it is debatable as to which offers the greater health risk.

Moxsum, there is no issue what so ever with small amounts of methane. NG also contains carbon monoxide, but the amounts you inhale are extremely minimal.

You are such a funny guy. Somehow, I just did not think of that.

Funny you should write on this because I hated the gas smell my gas stove gave off everytime I used it. I, too live in CA. Anyway, I ended up buying a two burner electric portable burner from Target that doesn't give off that smell. I placed it on my countertop. It may give off other elements I'm unaware of but at least I'm not annoyed any longer by the gas smell.

Also.. natural gas isnt so great, have you seen Gasland?

I had a gas stove in the 70s. It had a pilot light always on in the oven. The pilot light made it just perfectly warm enough to make yogurt overnight. I miss that.

I love cooking on gas. Instant hot.

moxsum,
Does your kitchen have a window you can open? That would be your best bet.

I suggest some hard boiled eggs and chew a clove of raw garlic followed by a beer.
