Default Weight gain can be deceptive

A student walking 0.8 km (1/2 mile) to college and back 5 days a week, burns 100 kcal per day, during the walk.

Over three 12 week terms, this adds up to burning 18,000 kcal a year - that's equivalent of 2.2 kg (5 lbs) of fat.

If the student leaves college at 22 weighing 70 kg (11 stone) buys a car and doesn't compensate for the reduction in energy expenditure in any other way, by the time he is 30, he will weigh 89 kg (14 stone)

People should be more worried about "creepeing obesity". It is where you gain 2-3 pounds a yr and at 50 you are huge.

I agree it's true! When I was 24, I weighed around 120 lbs. The weight increased around one pound per year, or 10 lbs. per decade. Now I'm actively making sure it doesn't progress any further with additional exercise and "less" treats in my diet.
