Default Removing smoking odors

I need some help. We are moving into an apartment next week where the previous renters smoked. What can I do to safely remove these stale odors? We have several Ionic Breeze air purifiers but I dont feel that they are very effective. I know I can burn candles and use scents to cover up the odor but Im not sure how healthy that would be. The carpet has been cleaned and there are no curtains.

I have a diffuser for essential oils which I will use if I can figure out which box its packed in. What oils would be helpful?

Any other suggestions?

Mari

Mari,

In the late 1960's, my mother-in-law quit smoking and raved about how nothing worked to get the cigarette smell out of her car until she sprayed it heavily inside with Arrid Extra Dry deodorant and left it closed up for a day or two. I have always hesitated to tell people about it because of the propellent used in sprays, and because of the ingredient mentioned in this You Tube video when you go to the link below. They make aluminum sound just wonderful. Of course you can always try spraying and closing the room up tight for a few days, then cleaning thoroughly, but I can't guarantee this to work.

When my husband & I quit smoking years ago at the same time, I cleaned every single washable thing in the house with Orange citrus cleaners. Draps, comforters. sheets, pillows, carpet, and eventually even clothes right out of the closets and drawers. Walmart has several orange sprays amd cleaners, one REALLY good spray at about 5 bucks for a small can. I think its made from an orange extract and it smells great.
