I never liked the idea of the On Star system, and I wouldn't buy a vehicle that had one. I don't want anyone monitoring my car/truck, or having the ability to control it whatsoever from a remote location. I think Progressive Auto Insurance offers some type of safe driver discount, where they install a box in your car to keep an eye on your driving habits.

On star was promoted as being there to help you in an emergency and that sounded good to many people. What they weren’t told is that it was actually designed as a tracking device. It can tell were you have been and were you are headed. It can have someone listen it to your conversations. This information can then be sold to the highest bidder of handed over to some government official.
And the ultimate irony is that they get you pay them for the “service” of watching your every move.

If you get decide you don’t need this "service" and cancel your subscription thus expecting it to be turned off, well it goes silent but it doesn’t turn off, it now just sits there quietly watching your every move.
Even George Orwell in this 1984 couldn’t come up with an idea that ingenious or devious as the case may be.

Just another great reason to keep my much older car!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was always suspicious of on star devices, now this confirms they are nothing more than tracking devices, same as the new "smart" meters installed on houses, and tracking programs installed on computer systems.

And how about the spies in Walmart... or even your neighbours..
