Jason! Born in the USA aye? I'm a nor' easterner.

My mom didn't allow soda in the house except during birthday parties. We could make koolaid ice pops once in awhile, but water was our main drink.

But, when I was a teenager hangin' at the local pizza parlor, I was friends with the waitress & she would mix me a special cherry soda with Coke.
Through my 20s in dance clubs, I'd have ginger ale with a kick.
I'm not really a big fan of soda, but on the rare occasions I eat at Burger King, I'll have a Mr. Pib. And during the summer, I might have a root beer or black cherry float

Sodas of any kind are bad for you - diet or regular.
Diet sods used to contain Aspertame but that may have changed.
A change to a tea of any kind woun=ld be better for you.

Hi Jason, welcome. Soda is bad news, and you don't have to be a health freak to acknowledge that. The amounts of caffeine and sugar in a can of regular soda is truly an assault on the body. You can search the forum under words like Cola for more info.

Diets are even worse! If I HAD to drink soda, I'd rather drink one regular per day, as opposed to two diets. Here's one of our older threads on that subject.

I'm like Cookie, I didn't grow up drinking soda everyday. We had GingerAle in the house for things like upset stomach, but a bottle lasted a long time.

Now, the only soda I drink everyday is plain Seltzer, no sugar, caffeine or salt.

To the forum! Im sure you will find lots of interesting stuff here.

I used to be a Coke drinker the real thing but have switched to tea instead, the goal being I wanted to cut down my sugar intake.
As far as drinking diet soda with its zero calories as you will see from reading various posts here that this is maybe not such a good idea.
Here are a few points about aspartame, the sweetener used in many diet drinks;

While it has no calories, drinking it to lose weight is counterproductive has it causes in increase in apatite.
It has been determined to be addictive, thus the more you drink the more you want it.
It has been linked to numerous health problems.
Also it is make from genetically altered bacteria that was developed for germ warfare, now if that doesnt wet ones apatite what will?

I drink about 6 sodas a year. Fo rthos eof you that like them, I would like to suggest Boylans Brand. All natural and they taste great. Their Birch Beer tastes herbal, where other birch beer tastes like methyl salicylate.

Dr. Oz had an interesting show on the effects of excessive sugar (more than 8 tsps a day) on cholesterol & the liver the other day.
His topics are usually 6 months or more behind in breaking news, but that's okay with me as long as I eventually get the info.

It's a 3-part thingy, but worth watching.

Right on Cookie! Screwing with one's blood sugar is a sure way to cause artery clogging.

Don't drink soda too much. But when I do it is always Dr. Pepper or Mountain Dew. So good, but so not good for you.
