Cancer
The tumor is not the disease but the result of the disease.
The polyps are not the disease but the result of the disease.
Doctors treat the results of the disease and don’t care about the cause so how can they fix anything.
It will return if you don’t change your life because that was the cause it.

Cancer would be like a speeding ticket you can cut it up or burn it or get a lawyer to fight it. Even if you win it solves nothing.
Only a change in your behaviour will fix the cause [slow down] and if not you will get another.

I'll try to top that excellent analogy -

Cancer is the smoke alarm going off in your home. A cancer doctor prescribing chemo and radiation is like pulling the battery out of the smoke alarm to stop it from beeping but not bothering to determine the source of the smoke...

Larry,

You may have [in fact] "topped it!"

Excellent,

David
