Anyone Hear of Using Sofosbuvir for Liver Cancer?

A friend of ours in his sixties, has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He recently had his gallbladder removed also. His doctor is just starting to give him the medicine Sofosbuvir.

This is supposedly a very new medication, which promises to cure the liver cancer. From the little I've seen online, they're starting to use it for Hepatitis C complications.

All I know is it's supposed to be an anti-viral medicine, and it's very expensive. Does anyone know of someone who was treated with this, any success stories out there?

Sofosbuvir has only been approved by the FDA for Hep C since Christmas and normally a treatment lasts a maximum of 24 weeks so theres not a lot of official side effects knocking around.

Patients taking new drugs have the disadvantage of not having time to build up a history of side effects, but side effects in the phase 2 trials where mostly nausea,insomnia and fatigue, which you are going to get with any liver drugs.
Supposed to have success rates in the 90% range in Phase 2 trials.

Expensive- $28k/month so a course of treatment could cost anything up to $148k
