Prozac for Pets - Insanity!

\r\n \r\n Just got a new 9 month old puppy. He is continually running around, playing, jumping on people, getting into mischief, and continually demands attention, etc. What is wrong with him? I guess I will just have to load him up on drugs so that he just lays on the floor and doesn�t bother anyone. Then again maybe not.

\nThe woman that I bought him from had previously sold him to a gentleman who apparently thought that a Dalmatian would be happy to just sit around all day doing nothing. Said he was uncontrollable and returned him after about a month. \r\n

\r\n \r\n He\'s young, I recommend Ritalin, it helps antsy children so much, I\'m sure it will help your puppy....NOT!! Lol, BTW, congrats on your new puppy, they keep you young! \r\n

\r\n \r\n I like dalmations, they\'re good dogs. When my cat looks like she\'s depressed, we just give her more attention, sometimes a new toy or special food treat and she\'s good as new. Too many people and animals on too many pills anymore, doesn\'t make sense.\r\n

\r\n \r\n I\'m almost embarrassed to say that my vet called in a script for my bishon - for his depression. I didn\'t pick it up.

\n I ordered some dog training. Became uber consistent with commands, rewards, feeding times and exercise. He seems much better. In spite of his allergies that the vet just didn\'t even acknowledge - which is the cause for the dog\'s problems late at night - the *symptoms/reactions seem to have lessened. How can you tell if he is depressed?

\n*He needs to make a quick get-away when his tummy makes a noise. No more cage for him at night. If he happens to be in bed with a human, he may need to sleep on your stomach and he weights 20 pounds. ug\r\n

\r\n \r\n My 60+ pound Standard Schnauzer sleeps at my feet at night, while the cat is at my pillow hugging me with his \'arm\'...not helpful for my sleep, but I admit, the constant purring is very calming in my ear.

\nNo way would I give my pets drugs like that, when I wouldn\'t take them myself. A mix of lavender oil with water sprayed on the pet\'s collar, bedding, etc. will help them relax and be calm (never to be sprayed directly on the pet).\r\n

\r\n \r\n I have him on some homeopathic concoctions. A calming drop for his water, allergy drops for his food (have tried them all. he is on raw. grain free. tried bison and he barfed all the food up. i give him some chicken but he turns bright pink).

\nI split his feeding times into smaller, more often to prevent the empty tummy growls that scare him to death. Poor baby.
\n
\nHe\'s always been \'different.\' He requires much patience and consistency.
\n
\n I have oft wonder if he could have some type of spectrum disorder. He isn\'t one to look you in the eye, when you call him. *Only if it is followed with the words hungry or cookie will he make contact.
\n
\nHis repetitive play with his fave ball. It must be in eye sight at all times or he gets nervous.
\n
\nHe must have concrete to go poo...he walks in circles panting and huffing until he stops to go. He hates wet grass.
\n
\nBut he is the sweetest.\r\n
