Vitamin D supplements reduce pain in fibromyalgia sufferers
Quite an interesting piece of work but it's about time people working with those with FMS and Vitamin D3 started applying a little common sense.
We know from other work that Vitamin D3 is most effective in resolving inflammation when 25(OH)D levels are 50ng/ml. Therefore to choose a cut off point at 48ng/ml is placing unreasonable restrictions on the study. I'm sure most people are aware our ancient 25(OH)D amounted to about 115 nmol/L with levels naturally rising with pregnancy and age. As 150nmol/l or 60ng/ml is a quite natural 25(OH)D it is unreasonable to say that levels will below that have safety issues.
It's also sad to see these researchers had no awareness that Vitamin D has important cofactors that enhance and enable it's actions. It is regrettable that no effort was made to correct magnesium insufficiency nor correct omega 3<>omega 6 imbalance. Most people have too much omega 6 and insufficient omega 3 Omega 6 is pro-inflammatory and prevents omega 3 working properly. Both omega 3 EPA and DHA work as Vitamin D receptor ligands and so assist it's actions.

There is absolutely no reason why any human should attain and maintain the natural 25(OH)D levels human DNA evolved to work best with. We know that around 125nmol/l 50ng/ml and around that level human milk is vitamin D replete. While I can see doctors have a financial incentive to keep their patients requiring medications but it certainly isn't in the patients best interests to be kept vitamin D insufficient simply to enhance the profits of drug companies.
A 25(OH)D test is relatively cheap both in UK and USA and readily available online and by post. Taking sufficient
vitamin D to stay between 40 ~ 60ng/ml 100~150nmol/l is entirely safe and anyone who says it isn't is simply displaying their ignorance.
