Default St Johns wort

A long time ago I used to take St Johns wort. I got Holland and Barrett's own brand, and the dosage was 300 mg 3 times a day, so that's 900 mg a day. They don't seem to have that anymore, they only had other brands. I bought one which was 425mg a day, just one tablet. I don't know whether I should take 2 tablets instead of one cos I can't feel it doing anything. However I looked at the ingredients and I'm now confused, maybe someone here could help me out ;

Each coated tablet contains 425 mg of extract (as dry extract) from St Johns wort aerial parts (hypericum perforatum) This is equivalent to 1490-2550mg of st johns wort. extraction solvent : Ethanol 60%

I don't have a clue what any of this means, does this mean that it actually contains MORE mg's than the old brand I used to take? And what is this Ethanol 60% business? I'm a recovering alcoholic, does this contain alcohol?

Not much help here, different brands always have different sources for their products and the mg content may be very different...I'm confused about those things too. A couple of years ago, I posted some lab results that Dr. Oz mentioned on his show that were negative for things like St. John's Wort, like lead, etc. in the ingredients. https://www.natmedtalk.com/showthread...=john%27s+wort

If your a recovering alcoholic with anxiety problems you could be suffering from a genetic disorder called Pyroluria. This causes Zinc and vitamin B6 to be excreted from the body which allows a high copper level to build up in the brain which causes the high anxiety.

About 50% of sufferers take refuge to quell the anxiety in alcohol, the majority of them women. Women who are on the birth control pill or a copper IUD have increased copper already and this just adds to the copper raised through having Pyroluria.

If you check the symptoms in these links and feel you may be suffering from this problem you can be tested for Pyroluria. If you are, then depending on the test levels, a supplement regime can be worked out working with a naturopath.
