We take magnesium citrate too, I heard the body absorbs it better.
Magnesium needs to be bound with acid, because it is an alkaline (base) metal. Alkaline substances do not digest well. Mag Citrate (citric acid) and Mag Malate (malic acids) are very good choices. Mag oxide does not digest well, sits in the intestines, collects water in the intestines, and causes temporary diarrhea or at least bowel movement. Unfortunately, magnesium oxide is very cheap, so manufacturers of vitamin/mineral supplements choose to use it.
