Good day to all, this is my first post on this forums,im a male and 21 years old...

One year ago i cut myself washing a glass and now i have a scar, the scar is at the base of my index finger and you can clearly see a line going all along the line i was cut,so my question is:

Does aloe vera or/and vitamin E oil help make older scars less visible? if yes how so and how to use them?
i dont expect to remove the scar completely i just want to make it as less visible as possible before more time goes by and it heals fully and i cant do anything about it...

If there is something else besides the two things i mentioned please mention it..
Also if you want and if there is a way i can add a picture just to give you an idea of where exactly is the scar how big it is and how it looks...???

thank you and im looking forward to your replies :)

I can't help, but read an study that said that vitamin E applied to the skin does not help with scars at all.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I know that aloe and frankincense oil can lighten things like liver spots. I think E would be better used when the scar is fresh. Whatever you use, just re-apply several times a day for best results. Here's an older thread with some suggestions...https://www.natmedtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19227

To put a photo in your post, just shrink the size down on your computer, under where you post your reply, you'll see "manage attachments", browse your computer, open the file and upload.

Truestory, when the wound completely heals over get some dry ice, hold it against the healed scar for about five seconds or less then wait several days to see what results. The scar should disappear. I've done this several times using both dry ice and liquid nitrogen. For a scar of some length several applications of course would be necessary. Keep smiling.

Ok so here are the pictures...

The one is from the first day when i got cut like a year ago,and the other three are from today...

its not the best quality pictures as i dont have a very good camera, but its the best i could do...

as you will see its not a big deal, nothing tragic but if possible i would like to do something to make it just a little or even better not at all visible :)

Btw i just want to mention that when i press on the scar i do feel an uncomfortable little pain, also when for example i carry 2 glasses one between the index finger and the big one,and another one between the index finger and the other one next to it because the glass presses up against the scar so it hurts, when i move the skin there left right up down it also hurts a bit, specially when wet...

so i am looking to make the scar less visible and i assume whatever product i find to do that will basically make the wound/scar heal properly'er :p and the painfull feeling will fade as the skin will become more normalised...

im looking forward for your replies...

another thing, english is my 3rd language so if anything is not clear just ask and i will make it clearer, thank you :)

I've tried the coconut oil for old scar. Sorry. Did not help me. I've heard that it works pretty good for stretch marks for body builders and pregnant women. It should work for very new wounds, because it is antibacterial and antifungal. Same for honey. Honey works very well for new wounds and helps to keep scaring at a minimum. Honey has enzymes, antibacterials, and antifungals to keep complications to a very minimum.

Ok when i read about honey for scars,i get a question, what kind of honey? there is raw honey, there is few kinds of honeys i dont even know what kinds there are but which kind do you use for scars?

im thinking of just making a mix of aloe vera plant extract, honey and fresh lemon juice, and applying it a few times a day on my mini-scar,and pray hehehehe

opinions?

Honey has a history of being very valuable for our health, and as a treatment for some ailments. Manuka honey, if you've ever tasted it, is much more potent than the typical store bought honey, and very expensive in comparison, at around $17. per jar. You can read and learn a bit more about honey if you click on our Wiki link at the top of the forum page (next to home), and then go to Honey on the main page menu. Manuka honey is very effective as a wound healer, and you probably would have benefited more if you had applied it in the beginning, as opposed to an old scar. Here's an excellent article...

https://www.healthyfellow.com/349/manuka-honey-natures-antibiotic-wound-healer/

There is much disinformation on the web, to be sure. Many of the folks here are quite knowledgeable about what is truly effective and worth trying, and what is a "scam". You'll get good advice and opinions here, and nobody will just 'blow smoke' to agree with you.

Also, always keep in mind that we are all different, and something that may work well for some of us, will not be as effective for others.

Very nice answer, thank you for beeing kind 2 a creature :p

So i would like to ask you,as you seem to be very rational and your answer just strikes me as a good one,so here it goes...

you see the pictures,it happened while washing a glass and it broke resulting in the wound on the first picture...i know about the last thing you said and i completely agree with you,it makes all the sense and its true,so i am between:

lemon juice(fresh lemon sqeezed)
vitamin e oil (although im not so sure about this one)
aloe vera (plant extract from leaf)
manuka honey
silicon sheet or/and gel

Which one would you go for kind2creatures? seeing the scar, and certainly having much more knowledge than my about natural treatments and cures and such,i just got involved recently actually in all this(as i grew up and live in countries where this stuff are...not popular)

and the reason, you will see posts soon enough i have a million questions and will have, the reason and my noble fight is to cure my herpes and HPV infections,a long road to cross, hoping for light at the end of the tunnel...

the scar is just a thing i want to do now that ive become familiar with alternative medicine,it would make me feel better even just knowing that i tried, even if it dont work out,but in order for it to work i need to believe,so i believe and keep going on strong!!! :)

You know, the funny thing is I cut my pinkie finger on my right hand (I'm right-handed), while washing a drinking glass over 30 years ago. It wasn't nearly as bad as yours, and I did absolutely nothing for it. I just looked at it to maybe post a picture, and it's so light and faded that it wouldn't even show in a photo.

The most inexpensive things to try are the aloe vera (preferably from plant leaves), natural vitamin E (d-alpha...NOT dl-alpha), just used from a punctured softgel, or lemon juice, as you say...fresh. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try, but don't expect results overnight. A couple of months with daily use might show some lightening. They say...don't expect too much and you won't be too disappointed. If you succeed, you'll be all the more pleased.

I'd try the aloe first, or a combination of all three. Aloe in the morning, lemon juice in the afternoon and natural vitamin E at night. Good luck, and let us know your progress.

Ok this is great progress :) you just make my day kind. ;)

so here i go,actually the few doctors i asked about the scar told me its still healing,as its still kinda red so there is still...kinda hope :p hehe

ok and more good news,i bought some natural liquid vitamin e for my genital warts a month ago or two,and it was 22 euros for a small bottle,i was like wtf  and i didnt even use it afterall,so now i took it out and suprise suprise, D-alpha :) :) :)

i will take it easy with the vitamin e oil and the lemon juice, but not with aloe vera...that is the plan

what they say is absolutley correct,i try to live by it,i try... :)

ok so i start from today, and in a month or two we will see what we did,if anyone has anything to add on this post i will appreciate it...thanks everyone and good morning(here its morning :p)

actually i thought about it and vitamin e oil kinda scares me bcuz of the side-effect it can cause i saw on a few websites...and the lemon i just dont think its as good as aloe vera...so anyway i go like this

Aloe Vera 2-3 times a day...Morning,Midday,Night before bed (regeneration)
Lemon juice 1 time a day
Vitamin e oil 1 time a day 1-2 drops

Everything will be applyed individually and after the hand has been cleaned so i will not be mixing the ingredients at all, except for what gets absorbed by the skin there mixing deep inside or something,so good luck to me

do you think putting surgical tape on there or a small gaze or both after appliying anything,i dont know exactly if the immune system is needed there but i read somewhere that putting tape over a wound/scar will make the immune system concentrate on there bcuz it will notice something weird and will try to fix it,or something like that, opinions? or should i let the scar breathe?

I don't know anything about the tape in regards to the immune system. That's always been a question for me also. It's almost impossible to keep something on the skin of the hand without somehow covering it. I would probably use the gauze with tape over it to keep it in place. Of course, some of the mixture you use will absorb into the gauze. As far as the mixture goes, just do what feels good for you, I have no particular things to recommend.

This is where BigAl's suggestion for using dry ice or Jfh's suggestion of silicon strips makes sense, nothing to rub off the skin. Whatever you try, best of luck to you. :)

hi there

you can also try a scar lightening cream along with natural remedies. just like what my sister is doing right now. one good brand i know is Metaderm. you can check the product online. it contains no hydroquinone so it's really safe and it's made up of natural products. hope you find the best treatment for you!

Hi,

Honestly your scar doesn't look all that bad. It can even kind of look cool.

However, there are some laser treatments for scars- primarily fraxel laser and the v-beam laser.

Vitamin e oil works great- but only when you still have a scab and the scar is new.

Aloe vera works for burned skin or people prone to getting keloids- or raised scars. Looking at your scar, I'll say it's healed quite well. If you're really sensitive about it, I recommend either of the lasers.
