Default Topical Vitamin Administrations

I am seeking information on the application of vitamins topically.

Looking for any information on this topic including studies and antidotal evidence of effectiveness.

I am advising someone with short bowel syndrome due to colon and lower intestine removal. She is wasting away and needs access to nutrients that she has no longer been able to absorb.

Does anyone know of any literature regarding the use of DMSO and vitamins applied topically? as well as coconut oil applied topically as a nutritional supplement, not just for local skin benefit?

Thanks

Yes, I have thought of that but the closest place is over 100 miles away and isn't a good plan for long term sustenance. But it is a consideration for periodic boosts.

Arrowiwind, consider the following

there is some absorption the mouth tissues and stomach, so upping the nutrients might help

as for DMSO be careful, very careful. if she is going to apply them with DMSO, she must shower first and rinse a few times. soap scum can be absorbed in the presence of DMSO.

I would think showering using baking soda and vinegar would be better then soap

One reason to use sublinguals is that the method bypasses the digestive system. Maybe giving a liquid vitamin sublingually would be a way to get the nutrients into the system. Your extensive work of how homeopathy is administered might be a confirmation of this. Maybe a tiny bit of alcohol would help the tongue tissue to open would help? Or maybe the vitamin coenzymes are too large for this purpose. Sorry, so many maybes.

It seems sublingual works for some things and not so well for others.. I'm sure it has to do with molecular size and some things just need to be acted upon by digestive enzymes.. like b12 works sublinglually but not as well as injection or just eating enough protien and having the enzymes to break it down. Studies show a wide variability in individual response to sublingual B12. It's probably the same for most vitamins... on the other hand hormones tend to absorb very well sublingually.

She already takes B12 shots, we just have to figure out how to get the doc to let her have it once a week instead of once a month.

I do not have any studies available, but I have come across some info in regards to topical applications of vitamins. When looking up methylation issues, I came across things that Dr. Neubander (sp), an Autism doctor, was doing to help his patients. For some of them, I think he was using a compounding pharmacy to make topical applications of vitamins such as B-comples and others, and people were having great results. One of the pharmacies might be anewrx.com, not sure though. He listed 5 pharmacies somewhere that he trusted to do compounding. I think college pharmacy is best for prices.

Besides b complex applications, I think they could put anything together for the person your advising. It would probably be a good idea to have her run a spectracell test and other tests like a hair test (trace elements) or something else to analyze her defiecienes and then go from there. She would need to find a doctor to help her out which might not be easy. She could find a spectracell practioner on their website. Or a functional medicine doctor using their practioner index site. I will try to find out some more info for you in the meantime. I hope this helps. Good luck.
