Seeing a Naturopath

Anyone see one?!

I am going b/c I seem to have PCOS and I need some help dealing with some unpleasant symptoms.

Also I had thyroid cancer (so I now have no thyroid) and basically I just want to make sure my body and mind stay healthy.

What can I expect and do you have any pros/cons about it?!

I went to a naturopath in about '93 while under a lot of stress and having symptoms of stress. She was very helpful to me at the time.

Since then, when I go to a medical doctor who does alternative medicine, not too different from a naturopath. She accepted my insurance. I've really liked her and went to her for about 7 years and will continue to see her about once a year even though I now live about 450 miles away.

If you are going to a naturopath, a licensed ND, then that peson has the ability to prescribe drugs, do IV therapies etc. They really do some amazing IV work, some of them. They can rebuild you quickly with IV nutrients if it were needed, usually reserved for the very sick or debilitated, or for those who want to be super healthy and nourished who can afford it.

You should be very clear about what you want your goals to be when you go, how much you want to spend, for they are capable of doing things that regular medical doctors are not. When it comes to preventiont he sky is about the limit.

Naturopaths (the real ones, not people who say they are, but ones who graduated from one ofthe 4 naturopath schools in the states Bastyr being one of them) are only licensed to paractice in 11 states. In the east, Connecticut is the only state, out west there are a bunch of states.

The licensed naturopaths have only been around for about 25 years or so. Old time naturopaths base their knowledge on Dr Lust and his hydrotherapies and detox protocols. There are some very fine naturopaths who are not licensed and who have a wealth of knowledge. Idaho is one state that protects their practice, as they have been functioning there for many many years. They specify in their laws between a Naturopath (ND) and a Nautropathic Medical Doctor (NMD) who comes out of one of the 4 year post graduate schools. This law was written only a couple of years ago. An old time Naturopath will use nature to cure which includes water, air, light, herbs, homeopathy, vitamins, minerals, massage. The NMDs have the right to prescirbe drugs and some do so watch out for that.
