Default Vitamin D

Hi Folks,

I am new to the forums/site, and have a quick question.

I'm planning on supplementing with Vitamin D3 (5000IU) daily, and will be ordering some, probably from iHerb shortly, unless anyone has any other recommendations.

However, I've found I have 2x Bottles of Boots Vitamin D left over from a few months ago.

Would it be worth supplementing with these until my Vitamin D3 arrives?



Is this Vitamin D3, and how many capsules would I need to take in order to get upto a 5000iu daily dose? ... The container states 12.5UG per capsule.

Appreciate the help!

12.5 ug equals 500iu of vitamin D.

Check the label for Cholecalciferol. That is D3.

Hi JFH,

I'll try, but the label has worn off!

So in order to take 5000iu, I would need to take 10 tablets?

Yes. You would need 10 caps to equal your desired 5000iu.

I found the ingredients at boots.com.
Contains ingredients: Soya Bean Oil, Gelatin, Glycerin, Colour (Titanium Dioxide), Fractionated Coconut Oil, Cholecalciferol, Antioxidant (DL-Alpha Tocopherol).


So, it is D3.

I use the NOW brand of Vit D3 from iHerb. Each beadlet capsule is 5000IU. The NOW
brand is reasonable has 120 softgels per bottle.

Just under the title of this thread, "Vitamin D", you'll find a menu bar. Just click on "Search" and type "marshall protocol". It has been discussed on this forum.

What do I know about it? I've read about it here and other health forums. Enough to know that I'm not interested. I've got enough problems.

Vitamin D3 is fairly robust and can stand being frozen or heated do providing the capsules have not been left in the sunlight the vitamin D will be fine. Just take a lot each day. If the container holds 90 then the full pot contains 500X90iu=45,000iu If you wanted you could take the one whole potful now, all 90 and then next week take the other pot and by then your IHERB supplies should have arrives. That would be a quicker way of dealing with the problem than messing about every day taking 10 each day. Most UK adults have a status this time of year around the 30nmol/l 12.5ng mark so taking around 50,000iu/week for 8 weeks is a sensible way to proceed.

I ran across this product recently, Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol) D-3-50 (50,000IU) 100ct at $30.00 usd. This product is being used in Studies conducted at Sloan Kettering, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland clinic. Nuff said in my book as for my selection of a D3 supplement

You can find the same stuff made by biotech a bit cheaper if you look around.
This place does free shipping and there are some other places that do an own brand name version that comes in the same pots and is made by Biotech.

These are not oil based gel caps. They contain a fine white powder. It may be a good idea to consume with a fat containing food, although you may find you can get away without. I take mine before breakfast then I don't forget.

You can slide the capsule covers apart and drop the fine white powder into hot or cold meals. Vitamin D can be baked, so add to biscuits cookies cakes etc (nice pressie for granny) or added to home made ice cream (that will tempt the kids)

But expose vitamin D3 to light and it will degrade. So keep them in the pot they came in, in a drawer.

If you make your own vitamin D3 in your skin for free the same applies.
More UV light degrades the vitamin D near the surface of the skin. If the light doesn't contain UVB then no Vitamin D is made to replace it.
