Great cartoon, thats probably what happened too! LoL Im so sick of all these doom and gloom shows saying were all gonna die in two years. Gimmie a break, if everybody believed that, then why are people still going to college, getting married and having kids, what would be the point if were dead in 24 months? Learn to have faith in the future and a good positive attitude, believe me it'll work wonders. ;-)
Who ever said that everybody believes the end of the world is coming?
Most of the Mayans from whom the 2012 calendar comes from do not believe that the end of the world is coming....
But there are others who do and their story is scary and maybe we shoud listen to what they have to say, just for our own edification.

Kevin, what do you think would have happened to our computer system if no one had bothered to update everything? How do you think it might have affected trade, shipping, utilities, banking systems, exchange of currency, hospital records, Data storage if the programs could not accept the numbering system?
If I remember correctly thousands and thousands of people worked on computer systems to correct and prevent problems. Y2K was not written in the stars. It was a technical glitch that needed to be acted on.

Sometimes just scaring the begibbers out of people is what is required to get them to take prevenative actions and do the work that needs to be done and things had to be done on a global scale. Those who got into the doomsday aspect of Y2K were those who could not see or trust that things were getting taken care of.
There is absolutley no comparrison between Y2K and the 2012 story. 2012 is written in the movement of the stars and galaxies and the universe. Exactly what it all means is not clear but this time has been predicted by the Vedic writers (dating some 10,000 years ago) as well as Mayan. It has been no secret and has been long talked about for centuries by those who have had the vision to note it, in the academies of the ancients as well as current astronomers, and I mean here the Vedic version the ending of the Kali Yuga 9a 26 thousand year cycle), which designates the begining of a new cycle of the rotation of our universe around the glactic center. Y2K was simply a tech glitch.
In the early days, computer storage was very limited, programmers only used two digits for year of date. For example, '89' was treated as 1989, it's OK for dates before 2000. But it will cause serious problems if '01' was treated as 1901, bank system will not be able to calculate interests correctly. Y2K problem must be addressed for most real world applications.
Now our computers use 4 digits to represent the year info, so in theory, we will have Y10K problem in the future. For almost the same reason, Mayan calendar has 2012 problem.
