I dropped my AARP membership years ago; below is just another reason
not to trust AARP.

Yes, I would not join aarp either. They screwed my father over. Its beginning to look like some sort of mafia for old folks.

It's my understanding that seniors get screwed on Auto Insurance too; poor
coverage for the amount they have to pay for it.
