Does any one here go to farmers' markets or local produce markets? There's far less chance of the fruits and vegetables being heavily sprayed and usually you can find out where the produce comes from.

We go to a little family produce store in the Armenian area of town. The produce is superb and we get 2 to 3 huge bags of veggies that we use primarily for juicing) for about $12.00.

I shop at farmer's markets whenever they're around. This time of year the local growers send their produce to the big supermarkets. So even though I'm shopping at a regular market, the fruit is healthier. Today I bought around 4 lbs of peaches at .99 per lb.

Cool

Good info, Arrow, thanks!
I've had great luck this Summer w/a local farmer's market - gr beans have been delicious, as have
been the peaches - actually ripe, not mealy rocks like Kroger's, that Never ripen right.
Potatoes, bell & hot peppers, onions, garlic, squash, broccoli, melons, beets, tomatoes, cukes.
Unfortunately no lettuce or spinach has been available. So I've been buying the hydroponic lettuce.

I so wanted to join the vegetable share that our farmer that we get milk & eggs from set up with another farmer. Local, organic. But we can't pick it up every week. This week was pink-eyed peas, watermelon, arugula, komatsuna, red onions, pears. Last week was lettuce, okra, eggplant, tomatoes, pears. I'm sick everytime I read the list. I should stop reading it! But what a great opportunity if you can do it.

Celery has no protective skin

Lettuce is contaminated with the most potent pesticides

Potatoes rank highest for pesticide residue

sweet bell peppers thin skin has little barrier to pesticides

Tomatoes cannot ward off pesticides

Its best to just buy organic

Here's kind of a stupid question but one to ask nonetheless: When it talks about "pesticides" what exactly are we referring to? Just like when an ingredient says "natural flavors" what exactly does "pesticides" include?
