cancer statistics

well, I've been all over the NCI site... trying to find statistics on the different types of cancer survival statistics where treatment/no-treatment is a parameter. I can find all kinds of stats.. state, gender, etc., but nothing dividing treatment vs no treatment.

so.. I started searching elsewhere and found this study done by Australian Oncologists:

My sister in law has ductal breast cancer. She used herceptin and then they declared she was likley out of the woods. Now, 3 to 4 years later she has mets to the bones. What was their answer? More herceptin....

If I found out I had breast cancer, I think I would look into HIFU. Which would mean a trip out of the US, because I think the trials are only for prostate cancer.

I don't understand why, when HIFU has been used for years in Europe and Canada, why.. the US can't use the data from those countries. Why do they need clinical trials for HIFU.

Iggy had posted about it on HSI, then Donna's husband found out he had prostate cancer... actually, it is easier just to link to the thread than to recount the whole story:

anyway, her husband seems to be doing fine with it. He had the HIFU, and was walking on the beach the next day (with a catheter. and was back to himself in 2 weeks.

It is a technology that has been used in Europe and Canada for years.. It is really upsetting that men in the US don't have this option.

However, even though HIFU is advertised mainly for prostate cancer, it can be used for other localized cancers.. like breast cancer. Unfortunately, it can't be used for my husband's type of cancer... but his father had prostate cancer with the operation, and ended up losing sexual function (a side effect with the surgery). So.. I told my husband if we found out he had prostate cancer, we would be taking a nice vacation out of the US.
