\nI agree, 95 percent of it can be cured with a good ass kicking! When I was in 6th grade we had 2 classes of 25 kids each ONE was on Ritalin and he came from a bad family environment\r\n

\r\n \r\n It seems like parents nowadays are just looking for some kind of medical/emotional condition to be wrong with their child. Then of course they are very trusting and will follow any advice given to them by school officials and their pediatrician, filling and changing prescriptions and doses as recommended.

\nWhen I was a kid, I knew to respect my elders, behave in school (or the nuns would give you a slap or wrap on the knuckles with the ruler), I even remember kids being taken out of the class to the spanking room and coming back crying.

\nI never needed to be physically disciplined by my teachers, or put on medications. My mother\'s attitude was, that if I ever did get a physical discipline in school, then I deserved it, and I would get another once I got home...worked for me!

\nThere were high energy kids in my classes, but as you say, they burned some energy off at recess or in gym class.\r\n

\r\n \r\n I remember when I first went to first grade (We didn\'t all go to kindergarten back then), my dad told me if I got in trouble at school I would be in trouble at home. The first day of school, my teacher showed the class her paddle. If a kid got too far out of line, the teacher took them outside the classroom, closed the door and "paddled the child." Not "beat," but gave the child two or three "whacks." The most common problems were talking to our neighbors and chewing gum. I don\'t remember one child being on meds for ADD, ADHD, etc.

\nOh, and about what my dad told me. He meant it and I never got in trouble, except very minor things, at school.

\r\n \r\n I have absolutely no faith in the psychotherapy profession. I think there are a lot of made up diseases and ADHD is just one of them. I\'ve read quite a bit about side effects of many of the drugs patients are treated with and from what I\'ve read, the drugs can bring on more of the same "symptoms" as the condition they are supposed to be treating in some people.

\r\nI taught Head Start for a while and had one boy whose behavior was quite disruptive. He was diagnosed with ADHD and given Ritalin. His mom hated what it did to him and so did I. He was well behaved alright, but seemed totally "Out of it." His mom came to me one day to ask how his behavior was and I told her. She said it was the same at home, so she only gave the drug to him when he came to school. I told her it was up to her, but I would be happy to deal with his non-drugged behavior rather than have him the way he had become. She seemed very grateful and took him off the drug.

\r\n \r\n My brother was diagnosed with ADD at age of 14... my family was shocked at how quickly Adderall was prescribed with very little investigation at all. Thank god my parents didn\'t agree with this and instead took the much, much harder road of cleaning up the diet, and eliminating processed foods, and other junk. This actually WORKED! But believe me, in this modern society, it is difficult to clean up a teenage boy\'s diet. You almost have to take him off-grid! But, in my opinion, the FIRST option should be to eat clean food, however difficult that may be these days.\r\n

\r\n \r\n My son had a very violent behavior when he got mad he would bite and fight everyone. I done some research and found that there where allergies that would cause this. We done a pulse test to look for allergies and could not find any. Then I came across a list of mineral deficiencies and found that deficiencies in chromium can cause ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, diabetes, fatigue, hyperactivity and learning disability. I gave my son this mineral and the change was dramatic he now is still a energetic boy but not vicious\r\n

\r\n \r\n I believe that it has to do with the chemicals in the food ,the chemicals in the atmosphere, and the amount of vaccinations children are given these days,as well as mineral deficiencies.
\nWe have a grandchild with Autism and one with Aspergers, and their problems are real, thankfully their parents dont believe in treating their kids with drugs ,and are getting specialised teaching they both have decent parents.
\nThe childrens problems started to appear after vaccinations and the parents are doing everything possible to minimise the effects.
\nI would like to know why the government subsidises help for children with these problems if it is not chemical poisoning by vaccinations, 1 in 50 children are suffering with an Autism spectrum disorder

\nchildren with a spectrum disorder will always speak the truth, take averything you say litterally,
\nnotice things and talk about things that normal children wouldn\'even give a second thought about,a lot of them cant stand loud noises,hate having their routines changed,and get very frustrated and angry,because people can\'t understand their way of thinking, which is totally different to normal people hence the violence, they also have,sensitivities to certain things like clothing and, food.
\nYou may notice when you go shopping somtimes some infants crying their eyes out ,it is most likely the noises in the shopping centres and the lighting.
\nour grand son hated to go to the toiletsin sbopping centres as he couldn\'t stand the noise of the hand dryers,hates having his hair cut because of the noise of the scissors and clippers.
\nI ask you th o think about these things when you go shopping and see what you think is a child being naughty for no reason.

\nI developed ADHD as a result of my Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), I have two nieces who have it and also a boy who is like a son to us, and even a 40-something guy at work who tells me has ADHD and I see it-' + '-he\'s constantly walking around because he can\'t sit still and he interrupts people when they talk. I can tell you that it is a very real neurological disorder.

\nBrain transmitters such as gaba, serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine and others are affected. Dr. Daniel Amen has discovered that there are different types of ADHD and the resulting changes in the brain can be seen on a spect scan.

\nI discovered that l-theanine for gaba and St. John\'s Wort and tryptophan and 5-HTP for serotonin helped me. Also, L-alpha glyceryl phosphoryl choline (Alpha-GPC), Phosphatidylserine (PS), zinc, turmeric, melatonin and who knows what else from all the supplements and antioxidants I take. I also eat very well.

\nThe boy who is like a son to us has ADHD pretty badly and short of going to Dr. Amen which he can\'t afford he seems to have Inattentive ADD which means he needs something to help dopamine. I put him on a program of l-tyrosine and velvet bean (mucuna pruriens) extract as well as others found in Dopaplus supplement, Cognitex from LEF, Neuro-Mag from LEF, Fish oil, coconut oil, good multi (Dr. Mercola\'s), whey powder, melatonin, extra Vitamin D and extra B12. He has to eat protein in every meal and cut out sugar and cut way down on processed carbs. (A few days ago he had pancakes with (fake) syrup for breakfast (shouldn\'t pancakes be for desert only?!) and he was a mess.) He\'s doing so much better that it\'s noticeable and others are commenting on it. Is he \'fixed\'? Not by a long shot. My husband spent 13 months trying to teach him how to drive and he finally passed his driver\'s test the 2nd time but we don\'t think he\'s ready to drive so he is only allowed to go from home to work and a few other places. He\'s 18 years old.

\nSo I would like to scream that ADHD is not a made-up disorder. Are little boys who are rambunctious sometimes mis-diagnosed as having ADHD. Probably. Is it over-diagnosed? Maybe. But that doesn\'t mean that there aren\'t many people with an actual disorder called ADHD.\r\n

She\'s having trouble concentrating to the point where it\'s very distressful for her. She\'s intelligent and a good student. I had given her l-theanine because she was also feeling anxious, it helped but not enough. She is on a multi, whey, fish oil and D. Her mom thinks she also has Inattentive ADD so we\'re going to try the same program as the 18-year old. When I told her about it she started crying. ... I don\'t think she needs her butt whupped. \r\n
