That must be so painful BigAl. Another option for treatment may be Manuka Honey...

Glad hubby has been such a big help to you, you know, every grey cloud has a silver lining. So sad you're taking so long to heal, but it seems like your getting a lot better than you were, take care of yourself.

Well, my burn is now starting to release large amounts of skin and it is making me sick to my stomach. I may be able to maneuver into a car to get to a naturopathic doctors office, if I can locate one that specializes in burn wound healing. I'm starting to doubt caring for this at home even though I'm using fresh aloe vera and colloidal silver. Maybe what I'm needing is to start using vitamin e oil instead of aloe which is making my burn area boggy and wet (white and puffy). That might be the next step that's needed. I don't know. What could a doctor do at this point that I've missed?

I replied to your message - and hope you will see some improvement.
For others to know, when the skin keeps dying off, that is turning while and sloughing off, it may be a more serious sign. Because you are keeping it continually moist, skin will turn white and slough off when kept wet - if this is the case, if you stop the moisture, clean the area, preferably with a whirlpool, then dry - gently- wrap in loose gauze to keep sterile but allows air circulation then wait to see if the area starts to turn pink. Pink is what we want to see. You can use vit E but not a lot. Not always on it. If after a few days you are not seeing improvement, that this is not producing pink, that it is continually dying off then we need to get to a burn specialist. If the bed is damaged, grafts are the only answer. Let us hope this is not the case. But I will find a burn specialist if you need one. The important thing right now is to see if you can see some improvement in the next few days.

I think the aloe is too much as you've stated. I'll report back in a couple days. THANKS SO MUCH!

Thanks, k2c, this situation has been an opportunity to see the silver lining.....I have to keep my eye on that lining!

Yes, indeed the most nutrition is in the peel but with my burn I'm unable to prepare food the way I would normally. The carrots we've been getting lately are not organic so the best I can do is spray them with vinegar to kill parasites then peel. Honestly, I could cry because it's hard not being in control of things I'm use to contolling: how dishes are washed, food prepared and cooked, house cleaned, things picked up after my young child.......oh, dear.....I do look forward to being mobile again!!!!!

You will heal; it is not a quick heal but you are on your way. Keep them clean, infections are burn's worse enemy; and do not allow them to remain moist, use a some E for healing, keep your nutrients up, drink plenty and get some D in the sun, but do not expose the burns.
Keep us updated.

Water, water, water....I can not get enough water. 32 cups during the day and 16 cups during the night and my mouth is still dry when I wake up during the night. I've started taking wheatgrass supplements with my water because the water is distilled. I may be low in electolytes and minerals. even though I'm eating veggies at every meal. I may be too heavy on the meat right now as I've been trying to eat it at every meal so I have ample amounts of protein for tissue regeneration. It may be too acidic on my system right now. Learning as I go......

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!

From Dr. David Williams January 2013 issue of "Alternatives":
"Stevia Salve
"Bangalore, India - Researchers at St. John's College of Pharmacy recently sent me details of a wound-healing preparation they tested. They wanted to see if it was a viable alternative to the providone-iodine ointment commonly used in this country (commonly sold as Batadine and used to prepare a patient's skin prior to surgery and for cleaning minor wounds.)
"In India, they made a wound ointment from stevia extract and soft white paraffin. Stevia extract has a long history of traditional uses in South America, where it is typically grown. However, the Asian markets consume over 85% of the global supply of stevia. In this country, we typically use it as a natural sweetener, but in Brazil and Paraguay, it has been used topically to enhance healing and reduce scarring of cuts, burns, wounds, acne, dermatitis, seborrhea, and even psoriasis.
"In animal studies, stevia ointment was equal or, in some cases, better than the povidone-iodine. Additionally, the wounds created with stevia HAD NO SCARRING, but the povidone-iodine treated wounds had permanent scarring.
"The ointment was only tested on open wounds, so I don't know how it actually works on something like psoriasis or burns. But the fact that it kept a scar from forming is amazing. If you have any of the skin conditions I've mentioned, this ointment is easy to make and very inexpensive.

"Making Stevia Salve
"All you need is liquid stevia extract (containing 80 % or more glucosylsteviosides) and some soft white paraffin.
"NOW Foods sells BetterStevia Organic Liquid Extract, which is pure stevia extract. It is primarily used to sweeten foods and beverages. An 8-oz bottle sells for around $16 (Luckyvitamin.com) Since it takes only a few drops to sweeten a drink or make this ointment, an 8-oz bottle will last a long time.
"Soft white paraffin is also called white petroleum jelly (commonly found as Vaseline Pure Petroleum Jelly, available at almost all pharmacies and discount retailers).
"In the study, the liquid stevia was mixed with the petroleum jelly at a ratio of 5/95. Unless you have the right equipment, it would be hard to get an exact mix. I don't think it's really that critical. Personally, I mix a couple drops with a teaspoon of petroleum jelly or whatever amount of ointment I need at the time. After all, the stevia is the primary healing agent and the petroleum jelly is the carrier that provides a barrier to moisture and air.
"Having this anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial ointment may one day prove to be a godsend with more and more bacteria becoming resistatn to standard antibiotics.
"It's kind of nice to have something you can drink, eat, and rub on your body as medicine."

If I could go back to the night of my burn I would have started to treat it differently than I did.

1. I would have soaked it in cold colloidal silver water until the pain disappeared. I stopped spraying cold shower water on it when I noticed 1/2 of the skin on my foot was moving because it was loose from the burn. It freaked me a little. Then the pain was excruciating.

2. I would have skipped the fresh aloe and honey treatments and used NON STICK pads from the pharmacy to cover the burn with triple antibiotic burn cream.

I'm drawn to natural remedies but my personal experience wishes I had gone the pharamacy route in this situation. Live and learn. My burn covered a lot of surface on my feet so I needed a lot of honey and covered both feet with saran wrap. It was terribly messy. The aloe sticks to the wound when it dries which is very painful on a severe burn. Minor burns that are small would probably be fine with the aloe and honey although a non-stick pad to cover the burn is necessary for the first phase of recovery.

Two months have past and I walk very slowly. My feet burn if I'm on them too long and they turn purplish due to poor circulation (I'm guessing). Things have improved though and I'm confident all will heal with no lasting complications.

Life lesson in this: to embrace my family and be more present with them....being unable to buzz around the house fussing over cleanliness and healthy meals has been quite a change for me but I'm still happy to say I'm grateful for this unique time. Would I do it again? Ummm.......I'd rather learn another way.

I'm glad to hear you are walking even though a little. My gut feeling is that walking helps to improve the circulation which of course then promotes healing. I followed that philosophy for a while until my wound busted open due to too much walking. Now i use a Rife unit to help increase the circulation and I think that has helped. I have some what of an advantage. My family has grown, my wife has died and I can spend hours each day with my foot elevated as my nurse recommends and the heck with house keeping. As I see it in my case the healing rate must depend on how healthy my bones are underneath which were damaged by the staph infection. Good luck

I believe the stevial salve sounds like a very good salve but would if making it use another agent other than petroleum jelly as we all know is petroleum based and we don't want such chemicals being absorbed into our bodies, let alone into a wound. Use another base, that is natural and you should have a very good salve.

Keep up with the exercise; any movement of even the legs will bring circulation into the feet. Magnets also will attract blood flow if placed on the bottoms of your feet or near the wounds.

Now that new skin is there, you need to keep it clean and allow oxygen to get to it, this will promote healing. The purplish color is common with burns. When you stand on your feet the blood flows toward the feet therefore they may appear more purple. If you feet are not ice cold you are probably seeing the common purplish color and not lack of circulation.

Sending you positive energy.

I have found on cuts and abrasions that tea tree oil an/or iodine solution work better than the triple antibiotic salve.

For cuts and abrasions, tea tree oil and/or iodine help disinfect but neither are oil-based which is very helpful in burn situations. Tea tree actually dries out the area which makes it good for pimples.
