Making poison more poisonous bases on late 70's pop science.

Hmm... Interesting... Is the word I would use for it... How effective could it really be? And is it sort of like the other "fat blocking" thingies where you don't absorb the fat and all the fat you eat comes out your arse?

It's like crapping plastic if you do that.. Or Plasticine, very sticky and yucky... Won't repeat that experience anymore I bet *yuck*

Aside from the above points, I was surprised this was being pitched in Asia. I don't think of the Japanese as fat...and also as more inclined to natural foods.

Except for Sumo Wrestlers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumo and I agree with you. I always think of the Japanese as a healthy society. Though they do have strange eating habits. They eat everything from the sea. They eat cow's brains as a snack. They have to import most food, because land is a premium. And now for the second time in history, they have to deal with high radiation in their lives.

I sometimes think they release these new products to Japan to do a market study. There are a big enough mix of westerners and Europeans to test the market waters there, and it's a small enough area to get accurate sales projections.

If it goes over well with the expat population of Japan, the product will hit the shelves in the rest of the world.

It's sort of like the "proving grounds" of new products. However, there are many "interesting" products that really never get to see the light of day anywhere else, and really they shouldn't

The Japanese can be a very twisted people too.... No offense intended..

They eat a ton of fresh seafood, seaweed and rice which lends itself to health. By western standards, their junk food is not appetizing: cow brainds, buffalo chicken and octopus ice cream.

Buffalo chicken icecream doesn't sound so bad... Just take out the octopus.

Also, there are some popular flavors available everywhere that are strange as well. Garlic icecream comes to mind.

But yes, monkey brains, and other such delicacy items such as butt nubs of chickens, squid ink icecream, and an assortment of other weird flavors...

But hey, guess we can't knock it until we try it

If I was rich, I would definitely do vacations in Japan, China and Viet Nam for the culinary aspects.

I used to say the same thing.. However, Japan is now on my "No Go List" ever since Fukishima....

Sad how that sort of disappeared completely off the grid and the old saying "out of sight, out of mind" really plays into it....

The radiation is still leaking, and they still haven't fixed it... And there is very little information on the clean up efforts.

Strange culture indeed. Isn't that where "bagel head" comes from? Or is that their neighbors?

Do a search for bagel head.

In any case, I also think this is a case for market study. Perhaps more relaxed "FDA" style rules there allows them to issue a product with less testing? I won't pretend to know the facts, just a guess of mine.

I wouldn't trust anything that said "fat blocker".

"Bagel Heads"... Now I've seen everything....

Well, to each their own...

Yes, I definitely don't trust anything that says "fat blocker" because they are usually just full of baloney.

I mean, "Reduce Fat Fast" was a mixture of Jinseng, Java, and Green Tea... Well, none of those really is a "Fat Blocker" either, but they advertised it as such... Now increased metabolism, yep, that can be attributed. But Fat Blocker? Nuh uh....

Well, I don't know about "fat blocking":

Wikipedia says:

Mechanism of action

Main article: Cholesterol homeostasis
Statins act by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the first committed enzyme of the HMG-CoA reductase pathway. Because statins are similar to HMG-CoA on a molecular level they take the place of HMG-CoA in the enzyme and reduce the rate by which it is able to produce mevalonate, the next molecule in the cascade that eventually produces cholesterol, as well as a number of other compounds. This ultimately reduces cholesterol via several mechanisms.

So, it reduces cholesterol, but cholesterol is not really what I would consider "fat". I knew this really skinny kid and his cholesterol was through the roof. So cholesterol it appears doesn't really have much to do with body weight?

Good point(s). So his cholesterol being high was really his blood serum cholesterol, right?

If I'm not mistaken, our brains are basically cholesterol, so most of us have about the same amount of cholesterol in our bodies?
