School project

[Mad Scientest]

Next door neighbor son is studying mechanical engineering in collage. Last semester his class was divided up into teams and each one assigned a project to design and build. His team’s task was to build a cart to hold a special computer for a ten year old girl. However the girl is a dwarf, she is 37” tall and 41 pounds, because of her condition her vocal cords have not developed. To communicate she types out her words on a special computer, which unfortunately is too heavy for her to carry around all the time. Thus a cart was needed to hold the computer and one that she could easily push around.

I assisted by letting them use my shop and tools and provided some advice along the way. This is what they came up with…




It also folds down so it can be carried in the trunk of a car.




The girl is quite happy with it. It is her favorite color.
They got an “A” for the course. The instructor even commented that it was one of the best done projects that he had seen in some time. Particularly considering the limited amount of time that they had to complete it.
