Default Why am I so thirsty even when I drink a lot of water?

Can someone help me understand why do I feel thirsty the whole time even when I drink plenty of water?

My dad bought a Dandelion Root tea bags about 5 days ago, these roots help treat liver and kidney problems and to relieve inflammation, boils, fever and diarrhea. They also take out the toxins from the body. I'm a guy who hates using medicine, so I tested this tea. I took three bags for three days, one each day. The first day I felt nothing on my body, the second day just very little pain on the right side of my stomach exactly under my rib. The third day the pain got bigger, but not enough to make me uncomfortable. Now my lips and mouth feel like they are very dry. No matter how much water I drink my urine color is yellow and orange.

If I drink one bottle of water and after half an hour I use the bathroom, I still see yellow-orange urine color. When I drink about 3 bottles in 2 hours I see white urine, but still mixed with yellow colors.

My lips are dry even though my stomach is full of water, What exactly happened to my body ? Also I still feel the pain on the right side, but like I said its not strong enough. The pain feels like a burning similar to when you touch a hot surface accidentally with your hand. Its not a knife like pain.

To summarize: After using this tea for three days, my urine color changed from normal to yellow-orange, and no matter how much water I drink I still feel thirsty. Sometimes the pain on the right side is strong when I'm eating, sometimes its in between, and sometimes I don't feel it at all. The pain never got to the point where its unbearable and that's why I didn't go to the doctor. The pain feels like when you scratch yourself with something hot, you just feel burning.

Dandelion is a diuretic, so it causes increased urination. It may also cause dehydration, so drinking more water to quench thirst and rehydrate the body is important. I'm not sure about the dark urine, are there other ingredients in the tea?

I've used Dandelion tincture, which is much stronger than a tea and have never had any pain from it. It does increase the flow of bile through the gallbladder, so if you're having pain you may have a blocked duct , and probably should discontinue use of this herb. Here's a bit of information about Dandelion...http://www.natmedtalk.com/wiki/Dandelion

I stopped using the herb after the third day, the pain is disappearing as days goes by. I noticed when I eat something that has good source of sugar like honey or a candybar, I feel less thirsty. I don't know why?

Thank you by the way!

You're welcome ammar555, and welcome to the forum! Are you still having the dark urine? That's also a sign of dehydration. Never heard about sweets making someone less thirsty.

Just came out of the bathroom, the color was normal. Maybe the two bottles of water helped, but I still have the feeling of dry lips and the need to drink more. The pain is almost not there. I have a test this week or else I would go to my doctor.

But as always, thanks!

Hmmm, could be diabetes. Try eating very light for the day and no carbs, see if you are extremely thirsty in the morning.

I think you should stay away from dandilion tea. This is a highly unsusual reaction. Do you have any chronic diseases? what made you want to take the tea? If you need a detox I think another way should be found. It sounds like this inflammed your liver a bit.

Often thirst can come about if there is not sufficient sodium in the diet... Perhaps you need more salt. Salt helps fluids move through the cells and actually get utilized.

I have constant thirst due to low blood volume and low sodium. I drink water with salt in it all day to help deal with it. You might try doing this or taking a spoonful of salt followed by a glass of water and see if it helps.

Herbs can be powerful.

I remember once I bought a case of black licorice and kept eating it everyday - probably too much. Then, when I went to the grocery store one day, a lady was testing everyone for blood pressure. She told me I should go to the doctor because mine was so high.

I've never had high blood pressure before or since. I always have low blood pressure. Then, I got studying and found that black licorice can raise your blood pressure. It might have been anise or other licorice substance from the Panda licorice.

It's good to become educated about whatever herb you take. Learn about what can happen if you take too much. Generally, herbs are safer than drugs. Drugs can have a lot more serious side effects. You just got to use wisdom or balance and not carried away with herbs. Use drugs as a last resort.

Guys, I'm getting light green urine now?

The pain is not even noticeable at all times, I'm just thirsty and I keep getting different colors every now and then.

Should I visit my doctor ?

Yes, please visit your doctor. Green urine is a concern and try to collect a sample when it happens for the lab.
