Default ALA alpha lipoic acid and Swanson's

I rarely order from Swanson's vitamins. Just their vitamin c cause I like the tablet size.

Today I received their catalogue and noted that 120 300mg caps of ALA is going for $4.49.

How do I know that this is a good product? It is soooo much more expensive elsewhere.

Can anyone advise?

The "R" Lipoic Acid is claimed to be much more bio-available.

Swanson Ultra
Double-Str R-Fraction Alpha Lipoic Acid

* The most effective alpha lipoic acid supplement to date

* Patented processing isolates the R-isomer, the only form found naturally in the body for enhanced benefit

* Potassium binding allows for the first ever stabilized form of R-alpha lipoic acid - K-RALA

Now there's a new alpha lipoic acid supplement that's more effective than any before: R-Fraction Alpha Lipoic Acid. Conventional alpha lipoic acid supplements feature a 50-50 racemic blend of R and S isomers, but the R isomer is the only form that occurs naturally in the human body, and it's the form responsible for most of alpha lipoic acid's beneficial effects. However, efforts to make an effective supplement containing only the R form have always been hampered by stability problems - until now. GeroNova Research has developed a patented process that binds R-alpha lipoic acid to potassium (K) to produce the first ever stabilized form of supplemental R-alpha lipoic acid: K-RALA. This potassium-bound form achieves maximum R-alpha lipoic acid concentrations in plasma after 30 minutes that are up to 8-10 times greater than those reached by regular (racemic) alpha lipoic acid supplements. Swanson Ultra R-Fraction Alpha Lipoc Acid features 100% K-RALA alpha lipoic acid.

Arrowwind,

I've never found any problem with their products (though I'm not sure how I'd know ... in most instances).

I only order a few Swanson-brand products and, on those products, the prices are excellent and sometimes unique (in their composition).

Guess I will try their R-ALA. Still less expensive than YoungAgain, which is what I have been using and perhaps more potent as theirs is not R.
