Default The Way to Healthy Living

i started practice yoga because of my back pain few years ago.

yoga gave me amazing feeling of being the very part of nature. i quit using medications, eating meat, i walk a lot, etc:
i love organic teas (my favourites - choice or bigelow), twice a week - warm baths filled with sea salts, everyday vitamins (one-a-day for your age), morning contrast shower, herbal patches for local pain treatment, which i still sometimes have (snogg patch)...

my yoga class taught me a lot, but this was the toughest and most appreciated: the greatest healer is you - your body and mind, not your doctor...

thank you for suggesting other tips and ideas,
Gina Link

Hello Gina, welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're making some healthy changes in your life, that's great! I agree that we can be our own greatest healers when viewing ourselves as a whole...body, mind and spirit.

I took a Tai Chi class a long time ago which was taught by a very experienced older oriental gentleman. I enjoyed it very much, and benefited both physically and mentally.

I don't know what type of salts you use for bathing, but epsom salt contains magnesium which is very relaxing for the muscles. I think that drinking a good amount of filtered water daily is also a must for good health. Ultimately, I find that walking outdoors, preferably in areas with trees, streams, etc., is one of the things that keeps me healthy and happy.

Hello Gina welcome from me too. You sound a lot like me except I cant do yoga as I have ankylosing spondalitis, and like you I keep a positive mind and try to do as much as I can to keep active, and keeping away from Dr's is my main aim.

I don't know about ice baths or how safe they would be, but here's an older thread that mentions cold water baths for certain conditions.

I haven't tried choice tea, but I hate bigelow green tea. I think it's one of the worst I've ever had. I enjoy their herbal tea and their black tea is not that bad, but their green tea is one of the worst I've ever had.

Just today I was at starbucks and noticed they had something called full leaf tea or full loose leaf tea. I can't recall the name, so I ordered it as I don't drink coffee anymore except when I'm in another country and I was excited about getting loose leaf tea from starbucks. Long story short, when I opened lid to look inside my cup, there was a bag in there. The bag did appears to have more full leafs than a typical cheapo smashed up powder bags that you would get say from bigelows green tea, but I was a little disappointed it wasn't true loose leaf green tea. I have to admit I enjoyed the tea and at 2 bucks I guess it's right up there with starbucks prices

I've never done yoga, do you suggest a class if I want to give it a try or any suggestions to see if it's for me or not?

jbo
it's Tazo teas, i love visiting starbucks just for those loose leaf teas
i recommend to try yoga for 1 month (1-2 times a week) - lots of people, me included, say that life changes after practicing yoga. it is...
i started with Yoga for the People (google it), friendly donation based yoga classes.
best
