Default Leafy veg 'may cut diabetes risk'

A diet rich in green leafy vegetables may reduce the risk of developing diabetes, UK research says.
In an analysis of six studies into fruit and vegetable intake, only food including spinach and cabbage was found to have a significant positive effect.
A portion and a half a day was found to cut type 2 diabetes risk by 14%, the British Medical Journal reports.
But experts urged people to continue to aim for 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day

Dark Green leafy veggies are a good source of magnesium because the center of each chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium.

People with diabetes are always deficient in magnesium. This shows diabetes itself makes magnesium deficiency worse.


Dietary intake of magnesium is inversely associated with age- body mass index (BMI) -adjusted diabetes incidence in both sexes that means you find lower magnesium intakes in older people, obese people and diabetics.

That's especially of interest to me as I consume sunflower seeds & peanuts/natty peanut butter frequently..

Good stuff, dear Knight!
I'm still at a loss as to how people can't manage to get 5 simple portions of fruit & veggies in daily.

Indeed, only 27% of my fellow Englishmen eat the recommended 5-a-day. This is despite a huge radio, television and newspaper advertising campaign!

What can you do?!

green leafy veggies are great but if you really want to make an impact on reducing risk for diabetes cut out all those dam carbs... corn, wheat, pasta, pastry, milk, sugar.

75% of your carbs should come from veggies other than corn. 25% from whole wheat or other grains.. which leaves little room for them considering how high in carbs they are.

you can change that 14% to 90% not just for diabetes but for alot of other diseases also.

Pumpkin seeds are loaded with magnesium.
