Default PLEASE Help! Need d-mannose advice

Hello, I am new to this forum and I hope I can find some honest advice and help here. My 9 year old daughter has suffered from chronic UTI's for several years now. I am trying to find something other than antibiotics to use for her.
I read about d-mannose online and how it works wonders for curing UTI's.

I purchased some in capsule form yesterday at a local health food store but so far they don't seem to be helping. Her urine still has a funny odor. She isn't experiencing any other symptoms except for funny smelling urine. From everything that I have read online, you should start to see results within 24 hours or so. Also usually her infections are always caused from the E. Coli bacteria and that is why I was sure that d-mannose would help cure this since it works best with E.Coli bacteria.

I have been giving her 2 capsules (500 mg each) every 3 hours since yesterday afternoon.

I am wondering if there is anyone here who has used d-mannose successfully and who would recommend a certain brand or company to buy it from? I am wondering if the brand that I purchased yesterday was not as potent? I have a limited budget so I cannot afford to spend more money on brands that aren't going to work.

Should I just be patient and keep giving this to my daughter and hope to see some results in another day? Or should I just stop and call her doctor?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

I don't know how long it will take for it to work.. and I do know people who it never worked.

If she were my daughter I would take her to a classical homeopath. I use to have chronic UTI and not until homeopathy did it end. Mannose does work for some people but it does nothing to change your system for the better and when you stop taking it once again the infections start. With homeopathy it changes you, it changes your immune system to be resistant and reliliant to bacteria and after the right homeopathic medicine is given there will be no more infections.

Actually I had two cycles of uti. Used several antibiotics and got nowhere really. The first was cured by one homeopathic remedy and then about 4 years later I got another UTI for which stupid me did another antibiotic that did not work. I ended up taking a different homeoapthic remedy and was better in hours and I never completed the second antibiotic which I had taken for only two days. After that remedy no infections since except one about 15 years later which I treated my self with homeoapthy successfully. Since then I have treated many UTI for different people successfully with homeopathy. I would seek expert guidance from a homeopath.

I'm not too familiar with d-mannose. I just got over bladder infection by taking two antibiotics at the same time....but the doctor just prescribed the same meds to help cellulitis, and I broke out with hives from the sulfer!

The Life Extention Foundation has a supplement with cranberry concentrate and hibiscus that they say will work. Here is some info about it.

Thank you for the replies. It looked like by yesterday afternoon that her urine was almost back to normal, but then early this morning it was back to smelling funny. I am not sure why the d-mannose isn't helping but I think I will find a good homeopath in this area. I have always taken her to regular doctors and urologists but I really feel that the antibiotics are just not taking care of the problem.

Thanks again for your help.

Something else you may want to try with her is Grapefruit Seed Extract, only during the times she needs it for UTIs. An excellent brand is NutriBiotic. You can use the liquid unfiltered concentrate or the hypoallergenic vegan capsules.

Ultimately I think the homeoapthy is the best choice as it will change her body in a way that she will no longer developin urinary tract infections. She is too young to be dealing with all this!

If for some reason Homeopathy fails, and it is not homeopathy that fails, it is the Homeopath that fails, oral Lugols Iodine can cure bladder infections. Makes sure she is not allergic to iodine. Test by putting it on her skin first. If that is Ok. Test with one drop orally. Most people are not allergic to iodine, but a few are.

If that is Ok then take 6 drops in a glass of water or juice 3 times a day. Continue for 2 to 3 days after all symptoms are gone. Use Lugols iodine not anything from a drug store.

Default D-mannose Powder form

You may try the d-mannose powder form. For children, dissolve 1/2 scoop in 1/2 cup of any drinks (lukewarm preferably). Make sure she finishes every serving. Take this dosage every 3 hours during waking hours. Continue for 5 days or until the symptoms are gone. Then she can take 1/2 scoop once a day after for maintenance.

Make sure that she also drinks plenty of water to flush out the bacteria and cleanse her urinary tract.

This worked for me. I hope it would work for her, too.

I have never tried this product however it sounds productive. In addition to this product it would be very helpful to have the child drink pure natural 100% cranberry juice, as this will help flush out the problematic bacteria. Colloidal silver is an inexpensive and effective treatment for infections, available at any natural food store. Taking zinc also helps combat infections. An all natural chemical-free low sugar yogurt with live and active cultures will replenish the good bacteria in her system and strengthen her immunity, and kill off the 'bad' bacteria. Taking antibiotics can actually worsen this condition over time. Reduce/eliminate caffeinated foods/beverages as well as chemically colored/flavored foods/beverages. Make sure the child drinks plenty of water. ~* blessings and good luck~*~*
