I just read in Nutrition Action Health Letter, written by The Center for Science in the Public Interest.....
That in 1989 researchers discovered that grapefruit juice inhibits a key enzyme (cytochrome p450 3A4) in the liver and small intestines that metabolizes drugs as well as estrogen. The juice can cause higher blood levels of estrogen and 60% of all drugs taken orally, and the impact can last up to 24 hours after drinking a 6 oz glass. One grapefruit a week is all they recommend.
In a study of 50,000 post menopausal women, those who averaged at least half a grapefruit every other day had a 30% higher rate of breast cancer.
So, I am putting 2 and 2 together and wondering if a man's risk is also higher as they say that high estrogen in men causes prostate cancer.
Also, I guess this means that if you are taking drugs to get high you should take them with grapefruit juice! for a higher high
