Default Rice Bran Oil - RBO

Hey, all you good folks

When I moved in Feb, I lost the papers from when
I'd ordered my last supply of RBO. Now, I'm almost out,
and need to reorder. I checked about 10 pgs from the HSI
Forum Archives, but found no link that now works.

Is Progressive Labs still in business and selling RBO?
If so, does anyone have a working link?
Or, if you use RBO, do you have another source?
Mary - just me - are you still ordering from them?

Any help appreciated on this Thanks

Hi EarlyBird,

In case nobody can locate Progressive Labs, here are a couple of links which I have done business with in the past:

House of Nutrition

Vitaglo

Swanson

I'm not necessarly recommending any of these sources. It's just I've bought RBO from them. I too would appreciate better suppliers.

Hello Earlybird... yes I am still using progressive labs rbo.... but I buy it from our dentist/naturopath!!!! but I went back to the old threads, and searched under progressive labs, and found these two sites:

Here is where you can buy the PL brand RBO:

weblink:www.a1solutions.com/WPCat/pindexqs.asp

Four 1/2 gallons for $36 is pretty reasonable, right?

weblink:www.honestfoods.com/topgriloil1.html

this info was copied off the thread.... Neal gets his from califoriana rice company, or something close to that... Good luck, hope you can find some.

Thanks LabRat - I'll check those out. I wasn't aware that
Swansons sold RBO.

Just me, I think your first link was the one I tried several
times and kept getting the not available notice. The second
link doesn't look familiar, so I'll try it.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Earlybird,

I also buy RBO from California Rice Oil Company. Check out their website:

www.californiariceoil.com

I buy it by the gallon. Supposedly not overly proccesed as most rbo is!

Default RBO

Hi,
I have what may be a dumb question, since I have only been using RBO for a little while.

I went to the link which Sally B. provided, and the pictures of the RBO there show something totaly different looking than the RBO I have been using. I am wondering if I am using something unsafe, or maybe the wrong kind?

Mine is Bernard Jensen's Rice Bran Complex, purchased at our local health food store. When I asked for RBO, that is what the clerk gave me. It is thick, sticky, and dark like molasses, with a strong nutty taste. It makes a great salad dressing.

The oil in the pictures at the link Sally provided was very light in color, and could be seen through, like olive oil.

Am I using the wrong thing?

Thanks,
Roxie

Roxie, I don't know the brand you mention, but the one I use is Alpha One, from Old Fashioned Foods in NZ - they have a fairly large input of products to UK. This oil is almost clear. It has to be filtered otherwise it would be rancid in no time, so there is some processing of it.
I think Shapeshifter knows more about the supplies of RBO in US, so perhaps you could send her a PM to ask that question?

Default Bernard jensen's RBO

Jensen was a dedicated Alternative Doc from years past.
I can't imagine a brand with his name on it to be less
than good or healthy. I wouldn't throw it out.

That said, the one I use too, is clear, and not sticky.
I forget to check at my health food store 2 days ago,
but will make that first on my list for my next
visit.

Thanks so much for your answers. It does not smell or taste rancid, so I will use it up, but will look for a clear brand once it's gone.

Roxie,

I looked up the stuff you are using, and found that it isn't rice bran oil, it's liquid rice bran. It is similar to the rice bran solubles that people take for the B-complex vitamins. I don't know how good it is, since it is liquified. Also it doesn't say how it is made, which matters since the bran goes rancid. You cannot get any information about it at all online. So for my money, I'll stick with the rice bran solubles.

Bernard Jensen also makes a rice bran syrup. Now Foods makes both rice bran oil, and syrup, but the best brand of oil I have found is Progressive Labs brand, which you can find a link for in the above posts.

Hi Shapshftr,
Thanks so much for the info.....I appreciate it.
Wouldn't it smell or taste bad it if was rancid? I have not kept it in the refrigerator, but it smells and tastes fine. It has a nutty taste. There is not much left, so if it is rancid, I have eaten a lot of rancid product! Not a very comforting thought.

Roxie, my attitude to food is - if it looks normal, smells normal and tastes normal, then there is nothing wrong with it. I reckon you are safe!

Xania,
That sounds like a good attitude to have, unless your sense of smell or taste are compromised, lol.
I think most of one's sense of taste actually depends upon the sense of smell working properly. I thought of this, because I just read an article about how the first and most reliable sign that someone is developing AZD is loss of sense of smell, especially certain kinds of smell. I think they said apples, lemon, cinnamon and cloves were the most likely smells to be unrecognized.
Then there are foods that are normally eaten in what some might consider a "gone bad" state, like yogurt or sour cream. There is a joke about how can you tell when yogurt's gone bad? I can't remember the punch line. Of course, I am a yogurt freak, and I eat lots of the stuff, so I have had it happen, and you can tell.....it gets a sharp, tingly taste to it...ugh.
I'll use up what I have, and then look into some of the links provided here to get the right product. Thanks to all for the suggestions!
Roxie
