Default How do you give thanks

I have spent the afternoon, looking up different prayers to say before eating meals... I am making my grandchildren advent buckets* for Christmas, and one of the gifts will be a box that has mealtime prayers written on cards. That way, the grandchild can pick a card and read the prayer before meals... Made me remember growing up... our family dinner prayer was:

Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts
which we are about to receive
from thy bounties through Christ
our Lord.. amen

Then I started getting sidetracked, and wondered what others blessings folks offer at meal time... So with Thanksgiving coming up.... I wonder... How do you give thanks at meal time? Do you have a special prayer that you say?
Here are some of the ones I found...

We thank you Lord, for happy hearts,
For rain and sunny weather.
We thank Thee, Lord, for this our food,
And that we are together.

Come, Lord Jesus, be our Guest
And let Thy gifts to us be blest.
Amen.

Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat,
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.

* advent buckets are on the same lines of advent calenders... Except each day of the month brings a small gift... a bag of popcorn, a packet of hot chocolate, this year the prayerbox, a salvation bracelet, chocolate, pencils, ornaments... little bitty things (preferably really cheap, cus I have 16 grandchildren!!! Still trying to figure out how to make Brysons, maybe bottles of juice or babyfood!)

sidenote... if you post a prayer and dont want me to use your prayer in my prayerbox, tell me please!!!!!

Just me, I asked around on another forum (no, not that one!). Here is a reply from a Grandmother in Indiana.

This is the one we generally teach the youngest kiddos first because it's so simple!

God is great!
God is good!
Let us thank Him
For our food.
Amen.

Then as they get a bit older, we add the second verse!

God is great, God is good.
Let us thank him for our food.
By his hands, we are fed.
Let us thank him for our bread.
Amen.

And this is from a teacher in a church school in Ohio.

At school, and with my own kids, I taught "The Five Finger Prayer".

Thumb.....Talk to God and tell him you know He is the Creator of all things
Pointer finger....Confession....ask God to forgive your sins
Middle....Others' needs
Next....My needs
Pinky....My sins

Or....there's ACTS

A....adoration of God
C...Confession of sins
T...Thanks to God
S...Supplication (ask God for what you and others need)

We taught this to fourth graders, but I've modified it for every age.

I have seen the five finger prayer before, and plan on sending it to my grandchildren... I love the idea of it.... Thanks Xania for the new blessings!
