Causes of prostatitis:

1.Congenital immunodeficiency

Clinical researchers showed that some men get prostate tissue injured due to the antibodies against prostate caused by the congenital immunodeficiency. Patients with this type of prostatitis can only control the condition by taking medicines.

2. Prostatic congestion

The most common pathogenic factor of prostatitis is prostatic congestion. Prostatic congestion will cause nonspecific inflammation which will lead to prostatitis. Therefore, men should pay more attention to the factors that may cause prostatic congestion, such as long-term sitting, driving and bicycling.

3.Bacterial infection

According to the clinical statistics, only 5% to 10% prostatitis causes are caused by bacterial infection. The causative bacteria invade the prostate tissue and induce prostatitis. The main pathogenic bacteria that cause prostatitis include staphylococcus and escherichia coli.

4.Drinking alcohol and smoking too much

Study showed that men who drink alcohol and smoke too much have higher risk of prostatitis than those who don’t. The nicotine and alcohol will irritate the prostate glands and cause the deficiency of arterial blood flow in penis. Thus, it will also cause prostatitis.

This disease can be cured by Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill.

Treatment for prostatitis:
1. Medication by antibiotics
This treatment is the most widely used. Antibiotics are good at killing bacteria to eliminate inflammation, it is very suitable for the therapy of acute bacterial prostatitis. As for chronic bacterial prostatitis and chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, treating effect of them will be decreased largely because they will produce drug resistance.

2. Medication by traditional Chinese medicine
Traditional Chinese medicine has high reputation in the world for its healing ability especially in the treatment of chronic disease. So, many patients would like to take traditional Chinese medicine like Diuretic and Anti-inflammayory Pill in treating chronic bacterial prostatitis or chronic non-bacterial prostatitis. This pill is made of more than 50 kinds of herbs, includes angelica, talc, houttuynia, plantago and so on. These herbs work together to reach the goal of curing diseases thoroughly. Besides, Diuretic and Anti-inflammayory Pill will not produce drug resistance even after a longtime medication.

3. Surgical therapy
This treatment will not be used unless the condition of chronic nonbacterial prostatitis is really severe and the swollen prostate is blocking the flow of urine, doctors will remove the infected portions of the prostate in the surgery.

4. Assisted therapy
Assisted therapy like prostate massage, infrared treatment can help patients relieve pain without obvious curing effects.

Not a man here, but I read enough about the supports from saw palmetto and grape seed extract for this issue of the prostate.

One additional exacerbating factor can be high DHT levels. I believe that one is at least partially genetic in nature. Things like saw palmetto or nettle root function as DHT blockers which is part of the reason they work. They may also act as bile sequestering agents (phyto sterols) which inhibit the absorption of fats thus lowering cholesterol resulting in lowered hormone levels across the board for better or worse..... They work though mostly as a means of prevention. The recommendation of anti inflammatory supplements is a good one especially in acute situations. 1 in 2 men develop BPH, best to start early to prevent problems later on.
