Yippee!!!!
It's so weird to think the brain needs cholesterol because I vision it as a mass of tissue with electrical zapping activity lol, but I guess all engines need some oily substance to keep them from seizing. (A lawn mower has made its way into my daily routine as of late, not that it makes much sense but... it does to me LOL)

The reason the brain needs so much cholesterol is because cholesterol serves a very i
important function in nerves. Cholesterol helps form the fatty insulation layer over nerves, but it also helps in a process in the brain called synapses.

Saved1986 brings up an important cholesterol trivia question. The CDC states that half of people who have heart attacks have normal or low cholesterol. I would venture to say that 99.99% of consumers taking cholesterol lowering drugs are unaware of this statistic.

Cholesterol levels are a very poor predictor of a heart attack or a person's chance of developing heart disease. I personally find no correlation between total cholesterol and death rates from heart disease. Instead what I have found is if coronary artery disease is going to develop, it does so independent of what serum cholesterol levels are.

So then whats the big ruckus over cholesterol levels? MONEY!!!! and lots of it! Decades ago the theory that blood levels of cholesterol were a cause of heart disease was tightly embraced by the public as scientific fact. When that acceptance happened a whole new market was born. Despite the theory never being proven, people were ready to reach deep into their wallets to ward of this sinister cholesterol.

Truth of the matter, you can have cholesterol levels of only 147 all your life and still develop heart disease.
