Thumbs down New Cholesterol "Guidelines" Promote Statin "Therapy"

New cholesterol 'guidelines' will promote increased use of statins...

Quote:
Controversial revised cholesterol-treatment guidelines loosened the definition of who would qualify for statin drug treatment to prevent heart disease, greatly increasing the number of people who would be eligible for treatment.

Compared with the older guidelines, the new recommendations would increase the number of US adults eligible for statin therapy from 43.2 million to 56 million, with most of the increase occurring among adults without heart disease.

The new guidelines advise doctors to look at certain risk factors in order to determine if a person should be prescribed a statin drug, but the risk factors are misguided, and the new guidelines are at best 20-25 percent accurate, according to experts.

Statin drugs, touted as “preventive medicine” to protect your heart health, can actually have detrimental effects on your heart as well as other serious health risks.

There are far better ways to prevent heart disease than taking statins, including eating right, exercising, and maintaining healthy vitamin D levels.

My sister is facing this from her doctor. She will not change doctors, and will do whatever he says. However, she feels she can talk with him. I told her that it would be better to take bile acid sequestrants, like Welchol, instead of statins. This will get rid of cholesterols by sequestering them from bile while in the intestines. They won't harm the liver in this case. They are slower, but they do work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bile_acid_sequestrant

I've already told her about omega3. My cardiologist says that I won't have to take statins as long as I take omega3 in good quantity, such as fish or krill oil. Trying to get it from diet would not be consistent daily.

They say the people in Japan have much healthier hearts and arteries due to their large consumption of fish. I take NOW brand liquid lemon flavored fish oil, and my husband takes the NutriGold softgels, both the natural triglyceride form.

All this is a money maker for the drug companies.
1 Cholesterol dose not cause any disease
2 The only study that linked cholesterol to heart problems was done on 9 countries and he was able to show a correlation. After adding in all the other countries there is no correlation and when you look at the American Eskimo on their natural diet have few if any heart problems and a cholesterol count of 350 -500.
3 The FDAin 2012 sent out a notice to ALL doctors to take their patience’s off statins because there is a risk of 52% chance of diabetes and 100% chance of dementia [Alzheimers]
4 The naturopathic Doctors say that normal blood cholesterol should be 250 - 270
5 If cholesterol was bad how come it only affects the arteries and not the veins as they both have the same amount of cholesterol. Doctor can’t answer that question. The body has wisdom and if an artery burst you are in a lot of trouble if a vein burst it is not life threatening. When you have free radical damage in the artery the body in its wisdom uses cholesterol to cover the damaged part like a band aid. It would be wiser to stop the free radical damage than stop the cholesterol which is saving your life.
6 In the sixty years they have been telling us to cut down on cholesterol and take statin the rate of heart disease has not changed. The other things that the body needs cholesterol have sky rocketed like Alzheimers which did not exist by any other name 60 years ago and now number 5 killer the brain is cholesterol. Male erectile dysfunction was rare 60 years ago and now a big problem for a lot of men. All hormones even sex hormones are made of cholesterol. Cholesterol is a vital part of the imunne system.
7 They claim that the difference of good and bad cholesterol is that the bad has been oxidised which is an easy fix just put more antioxidants in your body find food with a high ORAC score.

Cholesterol is good for male's testosterone levels. I don't think I will mess with my cholesterol. 2 eggs a day should keep a man fertile

Statin drugs will become manditiory now that we have big pharma, health insurance, and Fedgod all sleeping in the same bed.

Be ready to lower your cholesterol or pay more fines under government controlled healthcare. Remember, Fedgod knows what's best.

Sounds like another pill that masks a problem, rather than getting to the root of the symptom.
