Question Anal Fissure, or such

Hello. As you see I'm new to these forums, ofcourse the need made me join but I hope to contribute even after my condition is solved.

So I've, as you've probably already presumed, discovered blood in my stool. Not only I've discovered blood, but I've had for the past day or two a feeling of burn in my rectum area. It is actually not bad at all during the day (at least for now), but when I have bowel movements it gives me a hard time. Today was the first time I've discovered blood, but I didn't panick (I've got history of hemmorhoids in family and I hear it's genetic somehow, plus it is quite common as I hear).

Let me give you the larger picture. I am a 22 years old male, heterosexual (I'm stating this 'cause I've seen people often connect homosexual sex life with fissures and such), as I've said I have a history of hemmorhoids in family and yesterday (after bowel movements) I've felt discomfort and burning sensation in rectum area. I tried to examine it and just discovered that it was sore. I took some cream (like vaseline) and applied to the spot - it helped.

I would like to say that about 3 months ago I had something like constipation (simple lack of fluids during the 3 day period), after great effort I did the job but it was then for the first time I've felt like I've just had a fissure. It really isn't hard to explain that as a fissure, it's quite simple. Somehow I didn't have the need to go to the toilet for the next 3 or 4 days and I guess the fissure healed (I also have to mention that at the time I didn't discover blood in my stool), the next poo was easy and normal.

Somewhere like a week ago I started feeling discomfort again during bowel movement, but nothing too painfull, just a little sense of like something overstreched and snaped and is now getting irritated during stretching. Quite simple to explain as crack, or fissure i guess.

Here's some more info about me. In the past week I've been barely active (I've had some work to do on my laptop and I was mostly sitting with barely any walking or running). I'm stating this 'cause I hear sometimes inactivity can be one of the causes of hemmorhoids, inactivity or sitting that is - and I did sit alot.

Next. I'm a smoker, yes I know it's a filthy unhealthy habit but I'm just mentioning it in case it's relevant (not even a pack a day, more like a half a pack). I didn't smoke for at least a week and a half before I started my regular half pack about 6 days ago. During these 6 days I've had to go to the toilet more often than when not smoking (it's quite normal for a smoker to go more often to the toilet) and because of this often bowel movements I guess that fissure (if it is one) also stretched more often and remade itself. I also didn't drink coffe for a week and a half at least before I had a cup yesterday and three cups today (I had the coffee before the burning sensation after bowel movement appeared). I am also mentioning this because I've read somewhere that coffein has something to do with hemorrhoids. Plus my stool was something like diarrhea today, when I saw blood for the first time.

The blood I saw today was not in the stool but surrounding it. I really don't feel that it has anything to do with stomach or something like that. I sincerely belive that the cause is around rectum, therefor I have this burning sensation there, and the feeling of fissure when stretching. I also think it's important to say that the blood was quite dark, but when I wiped it was bright. I also want to mention that I haven't had a good cousine these days, and I read that high fiber foods prevent constipation.

Anway, I wanted to hear some opinions on my situation and you guys seem like a nice caring bunch. I'm not panicking 'cause I think it's nothing serious but yes when I first noticed the blood I wasn't exactly laughing.

I've searched this forum and I haven't really found a thread on 'anal fissure' so I thought it would be ok if I started the thread and I couldn't see where could I put it except in the 'general section'. Hope that's not a problem mods.

If anyone had personal experience with fissure (or if you think this is something else please say), please I'd like to hear your opinion. But everyone's opinion is wellcome. And if someone knows how to treat this issue I'd me very grateful. I have no health insurance and I would like to try to fix this myself if possible (naturaly or with medicine), 'cause i think that a little bit of regeneration power would do the trick (if I can have at least 3 days without bowel movement, unforced ofcourse, I think it could heal with some natural or chemical aid).

Thank you in advance.

Well it sounds like hemorrhoid or fissure. Internal hemorrhoid is harder to diagnose and usually a visit to the doc is required... but you can do an internal self exam. Use vaseline or such. You will feel a bump and it may be sore.

Fissures will heal. You have to find a way to prevent constipaiton. One bm a day is required minimum. Drink more fluids and add what works for you. A teaspoon of flax seed say in your cereal, in yogurt, or homemade bread or muffins works well.

Hemorrhoids generally heal up too and if money is an issue just get some anusol. Again constipation is the issue generally, but physical strain, lifting, weight lifting etc can cause it. If there is itching use anusol-HC.

Generally at your age these are not a big deal. My son has had a couple of problems on occassion probably due to his physical activity. He uses a homeoapthic remedy for hemorrhoids.

Thank you Arrowwind. I doubt there's any place in my country where I can buy anusol but I'll check it out.

For now I'll stick with the fissure diagnosis. I'll update the thread when I see changes.

Hi John.McReading, welcome to the forum. If you have access to Psyllium Husk Fiber it will help soften the stool when taken with good amounts of water. Some people use Witch Hazel to soothe the area, but just plain cool water on cloth application should help. Remember to keep the area clean also.

Thanx. I have this gel or cream which is kind of like vaseline. It helps when I feel the burn (after bowel movement). I had no bowel movement today so I can't exactly say how's the situation. No feeling of burning at all today, I took a nice long walk today, kept myself active too, there was no feeling of discomfort or so, but I did watch that I always sit only on soft places. Right now I have 3 cushins under me haha.

Anyway that's the summary for today (I tried to eat healthy, had a rich breakfast, good lunch and good dinner, I drank quite a lot of water, eat some fruits). Tommorow will probably be more active day, I expect some bowel movements and I'll report the situation.

Oh and hygene isn't a problem for sure, today I even had shower twice.

Don't use witch hazel on a fissure. That will burn. For hemorrhoids only. Generally fissures unless very severe need no treatment except soft BM. They are not uncommon and many people get them on occassion.

Hey, I just thought I'd update the situation. I had a bowel movement today and I took extra caution (not pushing too much), it seams my feeding was good and I did drink a lot of fluids these days. My stool was soft and healthy I'd say. There was absolutely no blood, no feeling of burn, and it was actually quite a relaxing poop, lol.

I took extra care wiping, I didn't overdo it and took a shower right after, seams like my fissure will be ok as long as I eat healthy. I just have to relax more when on the toilet.

I have a minor itch sometimes, but I guess it's normal as with any other wound you might possibly have when it's healing itself. I did however feel a little bit more itching during bowel movement but I guess it's normal because of stretching around the wound.

That would be all for now, and I hope my next update will be even more encouraging.

Few days have passed now, and everythings okay. There's just a really little discomfort when having bowel movements. No blood at all. And I think the fisure is heling itself.

That's good news John. Now, you just have to be careful, for a while, to avoid those things that thin the blood or promote bleeding, like NSAIDS.

There shouldn't be any itching or discomfort with BM. You have a hemorrhoid. It sounds like its getting better, but if you need advise let me know. I had it too and I used natural medicine for that.

The hemorrhoids represents varicose expansion of veins around the anus. More often people suffering from constipation have hemorrhoids, people leading the sedentary way of life, or those who drink alcoholic drinks and eat spicy food. The hemorrhoids arises with hereditary predisposition to this disease, but the reasons for occurrence can be various illnesses. The most insignificant damages of the mucous membrane covering hemorrhoidal knots, causes the veins to bleed, as well as allowing the infection to penetrate the deeper mucous layers causing an inflammation. Infringement of a feed of a mucous membrane conducts to decrease in its resistibility. Therefore after small damages there can be cracks that take long time to heal. After findings-out of the reason for progress of a hemorrhoid it is necessary to eliminate the factors assisting the progression (which sounds like you have been doing). After every BM you can do a rinse with cool water (your buttom). Constipation start from GI problems, inproper diet.
So treatment would be minimum 3 month, depending on the severity of the problem. The products are: Cleanseen, Gonseen tea, Elixir, Ravseen, bath w/ sea Salt, Balm or Dynamic cream on/in rectum, Solaris cream (regenerative cream, hepls w/ healing)

Thanks Yelena. You are right. I've tried just about everything. I did not know if you had anything new, so thanks for the info. I have not heard of Dynamic cream or Solaris cream, but I've tried so many creams and oils already. Worthless. I will Google the rest of your suggestions.

The creams will only help your hemorrhoid, not constipation. You need to prevent constipation in order not to have hemorrhoid, or so it can heal. You need to treat your problem from the inside, and the other products that I wrote will do that. Do you live in the US? There is multiple ways you can buy this product, and some ways are cheaper. It's too long to explain (in writing) but if you are interested let me know, or call me (if you can) that would ever be better and faster to explain.

This is good advice because almost no one gets enough fiber and one common cause of hemorrhoids is a lack of stool bulk and the fiber supplement will do that for you.

Many people wrongly believe that adding a fiber supplement "makes you go" but it doesn't; it makes you go "better".

Still, considering the number of deaths due to prostate cancer, a visit to the doctor might be a good idea. I had a similar issue and probably like you, put it off out of fear/embarrassment. I was glad I went because I found out I was okay and it was embarrassing but hey, that's what the guy does, so I guess "in the end" (haha), it doesn't really matter.

If you do decide to go, choose a doctor with small hands; preferably like G.I. Joe.
