Thumbs up Iodine Dosage

Dosage For Iodine

So when were forced to travel by air,
Holly and I drink a few ounces of water with 10 drops of SSKI. (potassium Iodide or commonly called Lugols iodine) The
SSKI rapidly accumulates in any in the sinuses, where it inhibits or
kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi before they can cause an infection.
There have also been times when
weve gotten to our destination usually a conference somewhere
and one of the women in embarrassing and uncomfortable
symptoms of a bladder infection. Certainly not the sort of infection
you want to catch when youre far away from home (and your
doctor). Luckily, I always carry a small backup bottle of SSKI,
which I give to her with instruc- tions to take 10 to 15 drops in
water or juice every three to four hours (while awake) until the
infection is gone. SSKI is close to 100 percent
effective in eliminating bladder infections, but the amount needed
is a relatively high dose, so its Its potential goes
far beyond being a simple disinfectant.
There are literally dozens of usesand
most of them are ones youd never expect. Per Dr Johathan Wright MD

Vaginal yeast infection 20 to 30 Lugols Iodine drops in a douche for
5 to 10 days will usually clear It up per Dr Jonathan Wright MD

Lugols loading dose = 8 drops daily for 3 months
12.5mg is maintence dose (2 drops)
15 mg is upper maximum daily dosage for safety
(The above seems to be controversial. My physician has me take three drops daily or 4 drops daily if I miss dosages through the week, then more if getting sick. What has been shown through studies is that excess iodine is readily eliminated through the urine and no side effects have been seen.)
Severe hypothyrroid can require up to 20mg per day. If you are treating a hypothyroid condition be sure to have your thyroid hormone levels treated after about 3 to 4 weeks on iodine therapy. Your need for medication is likely to decrease over time. Some people will have to decrease their medication dosage several times over a period of months. Some people will end up needing no medication at all when sufficient iodine saturation has taken place.

Another valuable iodine preparation is saturated solution of potassium iodide. This does not have the correct ratio of iodine iodide recommended by Dr.Abrahams for correcting iodine deficiency but it does have a multitude of valuable healing properties. Some people use it for replacement therapy and do well. Read all the information available on this website. Ultimatley the decision is up to you. My medical doctor recommends Lugols. It can help open up blocked arteries, disinfect water, cure bladder infections, reduce or eliminate ovarian cysts, diminish unsightly keloids, loosen thick bronchial secretions, reduce or eliminate Peyronies Disease and Dupuytrons contracture.

Lugols:
2 drops= 12.5mg

3 drops= 37.5mg
4 drops= 25 mg
8 drops= 50 mg

16 drops=100 mg
20 drops=125 mg

always hold your dropper in a vertical position. If you make drops holding the dropper on a slant the drops will be bigger.

The Iodine Test

If you are one of those who would like more proof that your body needs or does not need iodine, let me share a simple test. But a bottle of Tincture of Iodine at the drug store (Betadine idodine will do) and paint a 2 square spot on your inner arm. If it disappears in less than eight hours, you desperately need iodine. If it disappears in 24 hours, you also need iodine. If it simply stays on your arm and begins to slowly fade in color after a full 24 hours, you have already reached iodine sufficiency.

You can retest yourself every one to two weeks while on therapy. And
you can use the test to help you judge your individual dosage need for iodine. Remember that contrary to current medical opinion, the real thyroid experts have proven that most patients who need iodine therapy require from 3 to 37 mgs/day. And that means from 1 to 12 Prolamine Iodine tablets daily. (Standard Process Prolamine Iodine 90 Tablets ) Always start out slowly. Judge your results, monitor your symptoms and any side effects, and use the thyroid patch test to help you along the way.

Here is a link for the patch test. This form recommends the prolamine tablets which I have never used but the test form looks accurate. Standard process is known for making very good products and they make the prolamine if you should choose to use it. I think Lugols solution is more cost effective. Prolamine also does not contain the potassium iodide which many doctors feel is essential for much of the good results with Lugols, but some people choose to use them, and I am not sure why they choose this product.

Dr. Abrahams thinks that the correct quantity of iodine needed to maintain sufficient amounts of iodine in the body is 13 mg. daily. This is 100 times more than the government recognized RDA for iodine.

Dr. Abrahams recommends taking 50 mg of Iodoral (four 12.5 mg. tablets), Lugols solution (8 drops) or Triodide (8 drops) daily for 3 months as a loading dose. Then this dose should be gradually reduced to the 12.5 mg. maintenance dosage under the supervision of a knowledgeable health care professional. Dr.Abraham feels that 14 to 15 mg. of iodine/iodide daily is the upper maximum of safety. This is close to the recommended dose of 12.5 mg daily so caution is necessary in managing iodine repletion. Japanese researchers have discovered patients with hypothyroidism who were taking 20 mg. of iodine or more daily.

Prominent thyroid researcher, Dr. Benjamin Eskin, has shown that the thyroid gland and skin prefer to concentrate the iodide form of iodine while the breasts concentrate iodine. His research suggested that the body needs both the iodide and iodine form of iodine. This is easy to accomplish with Lugols solution developed by French physician Dr. Jean Lugol in the 1820s. His solution mixed iodine (5 %) with potassium iodide (10 %) and 85 % water. Dr. Lugols solution killed germs and was used with success in treating infections and many other conditions. This solution in the recommended 2 drop dosage contains 5 mg. of iodine and 7.5 mg. of iodine which is exactly the quantity of iodine recommended for daily intake by Dr. Abraham. Lugols solution tastes metallic unless greatly diluted and stains clothing and skin.

Japanese women, who are eating lots of seaweed, have the highest iodine intake (13.8 mg. daily) of women anywhere in the world. They also have the lowest incidence of breast cancer in the world. Japan has one of the lowest worldwide rates of every type of cancer with the exception of stomach cancer. In addition Japan has one of the lowest incidences of iodine deficiency, goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), and hypothyroidism. Iceland, another high iodine intake country, has low rates of goiter and breast cancer. Two countries with low iodine intakes (Thailand, Mexico) have high rates of breast cancer and goiter.

This Clarkson Labs product is a 2% solution. Most iodine dosage recommendations are based on a 5% solution so you will have to do the math.
1 Lugol's Solution 5% + "Folk Medicine" by Dr.Jarvis. Includes S&H.
Lugols Iodine solution currently comes in 2 strenghts, a 5% solution and a 2% solution. For theraputic purposes I recommend the 5% solution.

Calculating Number of milligrams of Iodine per Drop of Lugols Solution: LUGOLS 5%:
Each VERTICAL drop is about 6.25 mg of iodine. (The correct way to make a drop is to hold the dropper vertical and squeeze the rubber topper) HORIZONTAL drops - when the dropper is held side to side there is twice as much iodine per drop. Approximately 12.5 mg
LUGOLS 2%: Approximately 1/2 half the above measurements
..
Some people really object to the taste of Lugols iodine, in which case different tablet preparations are available like iodol I dont see why. If you put it straight in water ya, its bad, but not that bad if in a pinch. I put it in my grape juice or my red wine in the evening. I have found that I can put 2 drops in a cup of tea and not notice it. When I cook soup and stews I put a whole bunch in. Its the only way I can get it into the kids as they will not dicipline themselves. This way, at least they get some.

I am a writer for Naturally Good Magazine. We have been telling people about the iodine test for a long time, and many are really shocked to see that they are iodine deficient. There was one woman who suffered from hypothyroidism, and the iodine made a real difference. I think that the reason for this in part is because of fluoridation. Fluoride attacks the thyroid, and yet iodine combats fluoride. Those suffering with hypothyroidism are often very deficient in iodine, and just applying it regularly can lead to a greater balance of the hormones, and weight loss.

The lack of Iodine is the single most important issue happening these days in healthcare. It can change many many lives for the better if people would only try it. It can protect you from many of the environmental disasters that are happening in medicine and nutrition. The more you know about it the better you will understand why this is so. Hypothryoidism is at epidemic proportions, and of course you never hear about it from the media...that same media who makes their bread and butter with pharmaceutical advertising.

This "secret" is the pharmaceutical industries most powerful weapon to keep you sick, to give you cancer and to keep the bucks rolling in.

And if you think that no one in a company could possibly think in these terms you better think again. Of course most people who work in them don't, they are so fully indoctrinated...that is, brainwashed. They don't know how controlled mentally they are. The others...the few of them...they know...and I believe them to be the darkest force on the planet and you will find their likes at the head of pharmaceutical companies, DOW chemical, and Monsanto.

Just a friendly reminder which you are probably tired of. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is such a powerful antioxidant that it will transform iodine into iodide. Iodide is good for you; but it won't be stored by some parts of the body or do the same thing as iodine.

I would not want to add a drop to red wine; just because red wine is a treat which I would not want to mess up. Instead, I add a drop to each of my 2 cups of morning coffee.

It is not usually a good idea to consume iodine, as it can be harmful to the digestive system. It is usually much better to apply it to the skin, and let it go straight to the bloodstream; missing the digestive system completely. It's your call of course, I just thought that I'd let you know what I have read, and what I do.

Goat's milk should be OK; though I can't confirm the resulting taste or color. Kids (I don't mean goats) may not like that taste.

mandalasarah, iodine has been consumed for over a hundred years. It used to be put in bread. Australia is adding it back to bread; as they see powerful benefits. Traditional salt producers have iodine added as well. Many clinical studies prove the effectiveness of iodine. Bromine, another halogen, was added to bread flour when iodine was removed. The thyroid mistakes bromine for iodine and allows bromine to replace iodine in the thyroid. Hence the iodine deficiency problem and many thyroid problems.

Iodine is the only chelator of fluoride in the body. It is a good practice to include an iodine supplement with quanities larger than the USA FDA recommendation of 150mcg; which is ridiculous.

I think that it does need to get into the body, without doubt - but not through the digestive system. That is because the iodine that we buy individually is always made in a lab, not the natural stuff that you will find in sea salt, etc. You will find this chemical iodine in regular table salt, but I don't know why you would want to copy their model. The salt itself is toxic to some degree. The small recommendation of iodine is there (in this case) to protect people, because iodine can be toxic when taken through the digestive system. I'm not here to argue, and I am not going to try and stop you. I just thought that I'd weigh in with my opinion.

There is too much evidence suggesting otherwise; including clinical evidence.

If iodine were toxic, there would be problems with Japanese health. Their normal daily diet contains about 12.5mg. That's milligrams. The US FDA suggests 150mcg. When I say the Japanese, I'm saying their entire population - pregnant women, children, invalids, elderly, etc.

I take the Lugol's formula at about 12.5mg daily as well. Lugol's is a mixture of iodine and potassium iodide.

I agree, jfh, the proof is in the pudding.

I have seen no lack of action for putting lugols in wine or grape juice and I can't taste it either.

I have had several iodine deficiency diseases cured through this supplementation as well as others.

thyroid cysts,
fibrocystic breast disease
pms symptoms
bladder infection

Did any of these sources tell you to drink synthetic iodine? I have a bottle of in front of me. On the back it reads:

"Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, give milk, then give a starch solution made by mixing two tablespoonfuls of cornstarch or flour to a pint of water. Contact a Poison Control Center immediately."

You go right ahead drinking that stuff if you want to, but stop giving it to your children. They're innocent, and they don't deserve to suffer because of your pride.

About the bread thing: with it being a complete starch, it neutralizes most of the toxicity of the trace amount of iodine that is in it.

Well, Sarah, is that bottle in front of you Lugol's iodine? potassium iodide? SSKI

https://www.tahoma-clinic.com/iodide.shtml

"Lugol’s solution and Ioderal are one-third molecular iodine (5%) and two-thirds potassium iodide (10%). Studies done to date indicate that the best iodine supplement is one that includes molecular iodine (I2), which breast tissue prefers."
https://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller20.html

Just what kind of iodine do you use on your skin?

Of course if one downs a whole bottle of iodine it might upset your digestive system. I would think that iodine is best taken with food according to the dosages recommended by those who have done the research on it.

Just what toxic symptoms might I expect by taking Lugols iodine everyday?
I've been doing so for at least 3 years now.

If Iodine was meant to be absorbed though your skin we would be using our bellies as serving platters.

Of course, iodine would be best suited to come through food sources but most of our food sources severely lack it, and then when you are trying to contend with deficiency diseases usually high dosages are required for quite a while, until the signs and symptoms of iodine deficiency are gone.

I am not clear if organic food has rich sources of iodine...how would one fortify their planting soils to assure there is enough iodine, any body know? You just can't put too much seaweed into compost due to the high salt content and then most of us live far away from the sea so it becomes ecologically imprudent to do so.

Sarah, do not ingest that iodine for external use only. It contains alcohol. Yes that is toxic.

Lugol's formula does not contain alcohol. There's nothing synthetic about it. Iodine is an element. I can be extracted from kelp. You also get iodine from yogurt, cow's milk, egg, and strawberries.
Iodine ions are oxidized by sunlight into elemental iodine in the
atmosphere and returned to the soil by rain.

There are other formulas that supposedly will help with the bioavailability of iodine too.

The reaction of iodine with starch might only alter the iodine in that some of it become iodide. Iodide is good for you too. There is no neutralizing.

Also, people tend to think that if you put something on your skin that you can avoid toxic issues with it, as though the skin wasn't really a part of them.

It is clearly evident with more and more medications going to topical application that topical enters the system just as effectively as orally and the body will be subject to similar toxicity issues.

Yep, isoproprol (sp?) alcohol is likely what they use, and it is toxic.

When applied to the skin the liver still has to deal with it as well as every cell in the body it comes into contact with and also, the fatty tissues have a reputation for storing toxins.

We can address this issue further when Sarah tells us what type of iodine she uses.

It was clearly seen that when iodine was added to bread way back when that the goiter problems in our nation decreased significantly, so I would assume that the iodine was not neutralized. How would you neutralize a mineral from the periodic table anyway? It might combine with something else for a while until something else comes along and releases it again.

This is quite an informative article here:
Iodine for Health by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD

It states that pyoderma gangrenosum can cure with potassium iodide! I have had several patients in hospital die from this very scary disease! Their body just rots away..this above article has a photo, which looks mild compared to the cases I tended.

Notice, in your posted article:

Quote:
More than 4,000 patients in this project take iodine in daily doses ranging from 12.5 to 50 mg, and in those with diabetes, up to 100 mg a day. These investigators have found that iodine does indeed reverse fibrocystic disease; their diabetic patients require less insulin; hypothyroid patients, less thyroid medication; symptoms of fibromyalgia resolve, and patients with migraine headaches stop having them. To paraphrase Dr. Szent-Gyrgi, these investigators arent sure how iodine does it, but it does something good.
Thyroid function remains unchanged in 99 percent of patients. Untoward effects of iodine, allergies, swelling of the salivary glands and thyroid, and iodism, occur rarely, in less than 1 percent. Iodine removes the toxic halogens fluoride and bromide from the body. Iodism, an unpleasant brassy taste, runny nose, and acne-like skin lesions, is caused by the bromide that iodine extracts from the tissues. Symptoms subside on a lesser dose of iodine.

As these physicians point out, consuming iodine in milligram doses should, of course, be coupled with a complete nutritional program that includes adequate amounts of selenium, magnesium, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Done this way, an iodine intake 100 times the reference daily intake is "the simplest, safest, most effective and least expensive way to help solve the health care crisis crippling our nation," as the leader of The Iodine Project, Dr. Abraham, puts it.

People who take iodine in these amounts report that they have a greater sense of well-being, increased energy, and a lifting of brain fog. They feel warmer in cold environments, need somewhat less sleep, improved skin complexion, and have more regular bowel movements. These purported health benefits need to be studied more thoroughly, as do those with regard to fibrocystic breast disease and cancer.
