Cookie must not have power/internet...

The storm has blown through leaving a massive trail of destruction. The Jersey Shore is decimated, mostly evacuated, but the property damaged will probably be in the billions.

NYC has also been tragically affected, millions without power - we are some of the lucky ones, as we live uptown and have not been affected, power-wise.

Just in our neighborhood, cars are smashed, windows broken and traffic lights uprooted.

Hope all is well, Cookie!

Thanks for the update Marilyn, glad you're okay. Cookie said she might lose her internet access, hoping all is well her way.

I'm guessing you're right, since she stayed home.

She'll be fine, with a bunch of harrowing stories to tell us later.

I hope everyone is okay...

Saw it all unfold on BBC News 24.

It has certainly been the year of unusual weather patterns. A one off or the shape of things to come?

The view from Britain is that President Obama has come into his own and handled the storm (preparation and aftermath) very well.
We think it could be a turning point in the election campaign....

One news commentator here remarked on the news this morning how differently Obama had dealt with this time of crisis compared to the flapping George W. and Hurricane Katrina....

After knowing Obama for 4 years, I'd say he is very cool under fire. He does not become unhinged very easily. At least that is what he projects to the public. I don't think anything can really turn around a campaign at such a late date. Elections are Nov 6. I and many people have already voted early in states that allow it. And yes, I voted for Obama. My economy is so much better than when he started (2008). No, I'm not saying "Let them eat cake". I'm saying that he has clawed his way up through this mess as much as any president following the Bush financial Armageddon could. And without much help from congress. Perhaps he is the "devil that we do know".

Gov Christie (NJ) is using this opportunity to get close to Obama, as he thinks it will help his election. Showing that he can work across the isle - bipartisan. Christie delivered the GOP keynote address, so something political is up. Any president, after Bush, would be doing their best under such time of stress. No one wants a repeat of Bush mistakes. New Jersey needs a lot of help, and a lot of money. They are going to have to work with the Feds.

The part of his brain that controls that was removed. Making him more puppet-like. True prez material now.
"But many neurosurgeons across the U.S. and around the world are confirming what Dr. Yablonski has stated: Obama had some kind of brain surgery."

Temporal Lobe Location Characteristics
The temporal lobes are found on either side of the brain and just above the ears.
The temporal lobes are responsible for hearing, memory, meaning, and language. They also play a role in emotion and learning. The temporal lobes are concerned with interpreting and processing auditory stimuli.

There ya go

Have not heard much about that from our media.
But some of the site I visit are questioning was this storm just a freak of nature or did it have some assistance?

How timely, no? Just in the nick of time to make obama look like a saint. whatever. More bulllllloney. He did NOTHING. He is DOING NOTHING. Gets to fly around, make a speech - look haggard. All spin.

I think this thing was created. Sandy. I think they all are now. To help push some loss of freedoms thru and make some pol look good or bad. Its all for show.

ETA: For the first time eva, old obama appeared in my dreams last evening-or early this am - during REM damn him. A child-3year old- was hugging him and crying. She had the most gorgeous dress on for a child. I don't know why that seems symbolic to me. She was whining, crying a bit, saying thankyou for the white balloon with a red string he had given her. He looked AWFUL. As if it was all crushing down on him - the truth, maybe? I am not sure if the little girl represented the beginning of a new country? The white balloon with a red string sure means something. I do feel bad for the guy. He is just a puppet.

...aside from bashing ... I think of Cookie every day, and hope that she's okay and back soon. Going to send a donation to the red cross to help the victims of Sandy, can't imagine what some of them are going through.

That’s a good idea but perhaps the Red Cross is not the best place for a donation.
According to one victim the Red Cross is here with hot chocolate and cookies.

“But what we really need is blankets, clothing, etc.” Basically real assistance.

IMO, the Red Cross is a reputable organization that has come to the aid of many over the years, and operates very efficiently. The storm damage is extensive, and some areas are likey getting less assistance than others. However, I trust that they are doing all they can with what they have to work with. What I'm seeing online now is a lot of politically driven trash talk, don't know how many times I've seen the cookie and chocolate reference. I won't be changing my view or support of this helpful and needed disaster relief organization.

Indeed, only the Germans have their economy in a decent shape over here. Truth be told they're keeping most of Europe afloat.
If our countries were private businesses, the UK, most of Europe and America would have gone bust and be boarded up!

So many people thought Obama was the next Abraham Lincoln...Unforunately, he ran into the worst economic storm since the Great Depression and as you say, a view firmly held over here too, a large part of the Establishment has dead weighted on him.

I may cause offence here, not intended but, the system is rotten and the game has moved on. If people think Romney is going to swan into the White House and turn the American economy around to what it once was, they are naive.
