Halloween Candy - Keep It For The Kids
Posted 10-12-2011 at 09:38 AM by kind2creatures
Ideally, we would all give out healthy treats for the trick or treaters each year like fresh fruits, natural fruit 'leathers', natural licorice or small toys, tattoos, etc.
Realistically, kids like to get candy for Halloween. Since it's mainly women who buy, store and hand out all those 'fun sized' chocolate bars, they often fall into the sinkhole of overindulgence. Yes, I've been guilty of it too, although I have much more control than I did years ago.
Many gals who have weight or health issues, and are watching their diets, cutting back on fats and sweets, portion control, etc. are lured into 'pigging out' on Halloween candy, just because it's there. Some have to go back out to the store by the time the holiday arrives to replace the bag or bags of candy that they've eaten.
There's a few things that will help to stay strong while in candyland. Firstly, just being aware each October is a good, positive start. Know what might happen, and avoid it.
It's good to buy the candy late, right before Halloween, then it's not in the house too long to create temptation. Once it's home, tuck it away in an out of the way drawer or closet. A high cabinet that can't be easily reached is also good. Some gals just lock the candy in the trunk of their cars, so it's out of the house until needed. Also, when it's getting late and you're about to shut down for the night, be extra generous with the last few trick or treat stragglers, so you don't have any left over.
Don't blow your diet, don't wait until it's too late and the pounds are on the scale, be strong and prevent regret. Save the candy to give out to the kids, they'll be happy and so will you.
